Harvard Gameday...

I agree with the strong dodging ability. I’m not down on this team but i do think we need to change few things. I like joey he is great. But he is not our dodging threat. He had ball way too much dodging. Why we arnt having bear leo rhoa hahn mcintee hottle doing all the dodging or playing off them. Have joey finn play off ball finn as finisher n joey as the vision n feeder. Joey can beat guys at times. But to focus ball in his stick as much as we did yesterday at least seemed not smart.

Also are dodgers have to dodge to score but be able to n willing to feed ball also. Few times felt was man open when dodging from up top but the pass was weak or low or just not made at all. Also agree ball movement hasn’t been what it was before n yes no hiltz so can make sense. But guys holding it way too long at times. Dodge if nothing move it fast n go again.

I like mccarthy think he can be good. Not sure what is up with his shooting. Last year seem lack of confidence but this year he’s getting looks n shots but still just blah. If he needs to go thru bucket of balls every day for hours to dial in it then do so. But think kid has potential to be solid just no clue why can’t put it together. Last thing can we please do over the head bounce shots. They’re hard to stop. Rhoa does it at times. But seem like everyone else is high to high or low to low. Mean trimboli scored ton on overhand n overhand bouncers.

Gait is also 6-6 in the last three seasons in 1 goal games. 3-1 last season. So pretty close to .500 in his career and trending in the right direction. But of course it does not feel that way if certain people lose their mind after the close losses and barely acknowledge the close wins.

I can’t control how people use this place, but it’s insane the number of people who had barely anything to say after we beat the preseason favorite who has had our number for years, but start talking about freaking Chemotti right after we lose a close one on the road to a quality team. Don’t agree with everything in that post earlier, but maybe entitled is the right word.

Traveling so did not get to see this one live, but Harvard is a high quality team with the faceoff x often being the Achilles heal that loses them games against good teams. A win on the road the week after MD where we only kept it even at the dot would be very impressive. They almost pulled it out. They also kept the turnovers low (13) and had 4 failed clears against the 10 man ride, which is not elite but not unacceptable either. If you are giving up on these guys now I don’t know what to tell ya.

Going forward I still think we have some things to figure out with personnel and new faces/positions on the offensive end. Ball movement has been not as crisp to start the year. Often waiting too long to pass after drawing a slide. A lot of that is no more Mr. Hiltz. It was nice to see McIntee have some strong plays including a nice skip pass assist after a dodge and scoring cleanly on his short stick matchup. Think once the chemistry gets better on that end they take a step forward. The dodging ability we have is still quite strong.
I dont know what kind of doctor you are but logic and reason have no place on this board! (insert sarcasim font)

So I’m still semi noobish in the lax world
Two things popped out to me
1. Why did we wait so long to give the SSDMs help with Harvard’s midfield that blew past them all game?
2. In the 4th, minus the last shot, it seems to me Joey was hesitant to shoot. He had a few spots where in the past he has scored goals. Was he trying to be to perfect?

Thanks in advance and I enjoy all the post on this side as I’ve learned so much!

I will certainly own that I am an entitled Syracuse lacrosse fan. I miss the days of expecting a Final Four run every single year and knowing we had the best players on the field.

When I left Gillette Stadium in 2009 after that incredible win over Cornell, if you had told me SU was about to enter a 17-year national title drought and that would include a 10-season Final Four drought, I would have thought you were insane.

Maybe that's why I post here to vent with people who understand the game and our history. You all get the frustration. It feels like it's one step forward, one step back every season. I was ecstatic after the Maryland win and so happy for Joey Spallina. He came through in such a big moment. And then, we follow it up with a tough loss on the road. That's what makes it so frustrating.

Of the 54 National Champions since the tournament started in 1971, only 13* champions have finished the season undefeated (includes 1990*) and only 3 since 1997 (Hopkins '05, Virginia '06, & Maryland '22).

Teams lose. It's what you do with that experience that defines your season.

Maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way.

not yesterday
He was 50% yesterday. If that's him at his worst, then there shouldn't be a peep about his play from anyone on this site. It's embarrassing watching you all spin out and spout nonsense.

Additionally, to add context to the 17 year drought, those 54 Championships have been won by 12 different teams, 5 of which had no Natty's the last time we won one.

this is the problem with the double scheduling .not only can i not watch but i can't even listen on the radio.
all i get are cuse.com live stats. probably won't even watch the highlights knowing we lost. but hey AD, how about we avoid this scheduling thing going forward. other programs manage it.

Think what truely makes the lost worst least for me is we are the better team. Think we are more talented n have overall better players. Along with the fact they lost more by beating or shooting themslves in the foot rather then harvard forcing them. Harvard had only 2 cause TOs the rest were all on us doing it to ourselves. Even after all the sloppy play for most of game they more then had their chances to pull the win out but yet again a mental error on themselves sank the ship.

If harvard was truely the better team n completely out played us n beat us would be ok in way. But that isn’t what i saw. I saw our orange just completely lose their edge or focus or smarts to help harvard get the win. Least in my opinion n to me why it stinks losing yesterday. Harvard def isn’t a bad team they’re a good solid team but we had plenty of chances n looks n guys just didn’t hit cage. Or couldn’t corral pass or make a good pass.

They didnt seem to play like they wanted it more then harvard did. Almost like they thought n knew their better talented team n that be enough. Think it’s enough to keep ya in game n even chance to win. But gotta go n take it also. They didn’t hustle or play smart n forced way to many looks shots passes etc. They def seemed cold n slower cause of cold maby. Still long season n this team can still make a statement. But they gotta play every minute of every game like it’s last. Gotta play with ur head heart n a killer hustle attitude.

This isn’t an easy 6game road schedule n can argue bout the schedule n all. But pass point where anything will change. They just gotta go back to work n work harder and harder. But still long season ahead n this team can def do what they wanna do. They just gotta take it one game at time. Not worry bout ranks or playoffs or chip or anything else but the team in front of them. Win each qtr and you will win the game.

also jake spallina please please get healthy fast cause we need ya. Also can we please scout other teams players and find out who has speed and doesn’t. Those who have speed if we can get away with not putting ochoa or bowen on them let’s do that. As said they are solid dmids vs guys who arnt super fast. But they do not have the foot speed to keep up with speedier guys. So if team does have those type players maby we need to have kittleberger n mccarthy even hottle out there to help slow down those players.

It’s one reason i love lacrosse don’t always matter bout size. Sometimes being smaller and faster can be factor specially against bigger slower d guys. But also hurt if ur the bigger slower d guys. So let’s try to match up best we can. As said if do have to have bowen or ochoa on some faster guys let’s tell them hey don’t press out beyond the box. If O guy wants to hang out outside box all day till ya come out let him. More than likely he isn’t gonna score that far. But least makes space little shorter for our slower dmids to not get

harvard was the home team. they and the ivy league dictated day and time, not jw and su.

well that's when the athletic department needs to step up and negotiate . Bball was on espn1 so that's not changing . make a call to harvard AD and move it to 3 or 4. pretty sure the field wasn't tied up later. that's twice now.

Kinda a reach here or long shot. But if anyone able to get to team or speak or anything. Think maby would help mccarthy shooting if he goes overhand. He seems be doing mostly 3/4 side arm n pulls it a lot. Wonder if he comes straight overhand if maby he can start burying those shots. I remember jamie trimboli struggling at first and ryan powell constantly saying to go over hand. Jamie started going overhand constantly and scored a ton. Just thought!

how do you know we didn't ask? and wasn't there a weather concern coming in?

Its really not in the best interest of the student athletes to move an away game back to a later start. First off they are bussing to Harvard, that means at least five hours on the bus after the game through a snowstorm. A 1pm start gets them back to Syracuse at around 11pm-Midnight, push it to a 4pm start and they arent getting back until 2am or so. I know as fans we want to be able to watch everything live, but sometimes it is just out of their hands or not in the best interest of their student athletes.

i mean that argument tho i believe to be genuine is so lame. bussing and weather on a game which should have been rescheduled months early to a 2 hour later game time cuz of possible weather and sleep ? seriously ?

yes, 100% serious. If you want these kids to perform at their best than yes, their sleep should be acknowledged. Im sorry the times weren't convenient for the tbonezone, but I really don't think that goes into their thoughts when they schedule games. Travel and athlete well being go into the process whether or not you want to believe it its reality.
