But how much NIL do general fans actually generate? A few hundred thousand? Maybe a million? I can’t imagine my 500/1000 a year is matched by 100,000 people to get us to a 20M+ total package. Especially not in the current economy
Or that our marketing for NIL donations is piss poor.
I expect Blair will work with the collectives to try and fix that.
I was checking out the SU Football NIL site after it went live again, (for example) and they are focused on corporate NIL sponsorships (big ticket sponsors) and are promoting corporate events NIL sponsorship canvassing, which I totally get as it's the best bang for the buck (like the Meier's Creek Football Meet & Greet Event)... but if you want to make a small $$$ retail fan NIL donation, the only way to do that is click on the Meier's Creek event "Buy Tickets" link, and when you get there, you can actually opt to not buy tickets and just make a $$$ donation... But it's buried in the ticket purchase workflow for the event. Absolutely remedial usability workflow to find that on the site. How many people went to the site to do a small $$ donation, couldn't figure it out, and left/abandoned? Just one example.
Their should be a "Donate Now!" block on the homepage above the fold that screams that and minimal clicks to donate, supported by a number of ease-of-use payment platforms (credit card, venmo, paypal, apple pay, google pay, ACH bank debit, etc.)
Blair should have all the collective sites through a usability analysis and make sure they are optimized for ease of donation functionality and use, ensure they have funded and effective social media NIL ad promotional strategies, email and SMS promotional flows and messaging, etc. Bring all the collectives up to a level of professional promotion that gets significant incremental donations through better and improved marketing. I was on the SU NIL Football website numerous times and have yet to see a NIL promotional retargeting ad on any social media platform I visit, either, for example.
This is now a business and these NIL operations have to be run like efficient businesses to get maximum ROI.
