Yeah. I believe it was a double disk replacement in his cervical spine. I think I remember reading he went to Europe because surgeons here would only do one segment, not two.

Are we still doing phrasing

Part of the appeal for me with ADBB was that he was an outsider and wouldn't be influenced as much by the mess that is SU. This would not be an outsider's hire.

It was a huge mistake to hire Red. Trying to fix that mistake with inexperience seems risky. I love GMac but this mess is a hard task for for all but maybe a dozen HCs to fix. Might as well go for Hart and Hop on his bench to help. We will need it.

The right balance of players both new and retained plus an infusion of $$$ for multiple years would make it a very doable job for Gerry. If he’s having to count pennies and make sugar out of salt then it would be a near impossible task for anyone but certainly a new coach still developing his identity.

Gerry earned the right to be a finalist with what he did all the way through the performance against Duke. Given he’s a couple years early to be in such consideration it all comes down to the money and where it would land for this other option vs what he would have lined up. That is the new reality. You need a good coach , then the $$$ to back him and recruit as well as fill out a full staff. It’s a different calculus today. If you can get 80-90 pct in the $$$ category of what Gerry is going to have behind him then it’s a no brainer. If it’s like 50-60 pct, you want Gerry and the $$ hands down. In between that you just have to trust BB here.

the AD has been here for two weeks. He has no idea what a deconstructed Syracuse is and was

I have faith he’s an objective viewpoint. But SU is unique. Need some historical perspective on this hc selection. Syracuse isn’t Toledo.

While I’m not comparing JAB with Gerry McNamara, but JAB was an assistant coach for 4 years before becoming aa head coh. GMac was a coach for 11-13 years before he became a head coach.

Conversely, the same came be said about Adrian Autry who spent about the same amount aas aan assistant coach.

Really comes down to several factors for success: the opportunity, timing, the person selected and his plan for the position, what the person does with the opportunity.

Every company and corporation loves to use the line about being unique. There are some very clear cut goals needed to be reached and he doesn’t need to be here long to put that together in putting his stamp on this decision. Often times the issue becomes an emotional one for those who are longstanding members of any organization and new blood can get the insight but also not be stuck in the mud with everything has to be either A or B.

New chancellor, new athletic director, two new major revenue sport coaches... It is kind of a new day, they have a chance to work things out going forward.

Why do people think Gerry will be so good with NIL? I hear that a lot. Curious about the reasoning.
Cause he is good without it. The money is secondary to building the right team. U can always pay whatever and be decent but the money has to go to the right player and that player better have the right makeup. Building roster with the money is key.

I think there is an aspect of "it factor" to coaching, similar to quarterbacking. You can have coaches that get all the right training and come from the best tree that are meh. Then there are coaches that don't have the experience and haven't coached at a high level that just know how to coach no matter where you put them. I don't know if GMac is the latter, but I also don't that he's not. He had the "it" as a player. He's a grinder and crazy competitve, so that's a good start.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!(doing my part to see that this thread reaches 1000 pages, Oopsie wrong thread-lol!)

That’s a very easy mistake when dealing with relentless SDE… whoops I mean SDS- Shertz derangement syndrome. Seems it’s the later phase after contracting HDS.

Josh Schertz is a terrific coach and is leading a terrific program. The players, fans, and boosters love him. He’s the real deal and everything BS Hodgson is not. I wish Schertz lots of good luck and big wins in the future as he leads the Billikens back to the NCAA tournament. But the Syracuse job is spoken for by Mr. GMAC.

Great Post! Exactly the way it is and could be.

I hope BB is still here working on this with perhaps Melo, the new Chancellor, Donors, past players with big pockets. You do not offer this position to Gerry w/o being sure he is well compensated and we have the money to get him the players he wants and needs.

Cryptic insider tip?

He also had micro fractures in his spine that he finally got operated on in Germany. Remember how he killed himself winning the BET? And every night he would sit in a bathtub full of ice. He got us into the NCAAs but we couldn’t win the first game because he bottomed out. :(
Also the lazy committee egretiously overseeded them based on those four days. You don't go from bubble team to top 20 in four days.

Hence, why JB answered Gerry McNamara when asked if he was stuck in a bunker who he'd want in there along with him.
