I will never forget the sight of the FSU player lining him up for the vicious blindside hit that ended his season in the beginning of game one.Bill Hurley.
With him the Orange could compete. Without him it simply could not.

The defense under performed all year; bad tackling and no pressure on the QB. special teams was the worst I have ever seen. Our offensive line was also suspect and Kyle still passed for 4779 yards and 34 TD’s.McCord was the perfect transfer QB for this new staff. He exceeded expectations. Its hard to say how many wins we would have with another transfer QB ( not knowing who they would have gotten). We would have won some games but not 10. The defense was wildly inconsistent but nothing close to the worst Ive seen at SU
I'll never forget thinking WT_! when Maloney sent Hurley out to return punts and kickoffs.I will never forget the sight of the FSU player lining him up for the vicious blindside hit that ended his season in the beginning of game one.
I was just responding to a hyperbolic comment about the defense. The defense and specs underformed but it wasnt the worst Ive seen at SU. Love Kyle and what he did for this team. He covered up some holes with his decision making and accuracy. This also was a great group of Wr's he had. He wasnt throwing it to chumpsThe defense under performed all year; bad tackling and no pressure on the QB. special teams was the worst I have ever seen. To end up with 10 wins and ranked in the top 20 for a first time HC is an unbelievable accomplishment
I’d say Kyle McCourd was the most impactful player on a winning team in the history of Syracuse football. We’ve only had nine 10-win seasons in the history of the program.
You’re a great poster and I value your opinion but have you ever seen special teams worse than this year? I’ve been a fan since 1975 and this is by far the worst I have ever seenI was just responding to a hyperbolic comment about the defense. The defense and specs underformed but it wasnt the worst Ive seen at SU. I think there's a bit of a recency bias going on. I still havent seen a defensive performance like Freeney's 2001 campaign. To make that type of impact playing on defense. I hold that in high regard. That's a 6 win team without him. The team went 4-8 the following season and the program hasnt been the same since he left.
Punt protection was horrendous. FG kicking was a mess. Coverage was ok. Return units werent anything special. You’re a great poster and I value your opinion but have you ever seen special teams worse than this year? I’ve been a fan since 1975 and this is by far the worst I have ever seen
I do not recall any ST being this bad anywhere in the country. I am sure there must have been someone worse somewhere in the past 50 years, I just can not recall whom that may be.You’re a great poster and I value your opinion but have you ever seen special teams worse than this year? Just in the holiday bowl alone we had a botched 2-point conversion, one punt block for a TD, another near punt block, a botched snap on a field goal, a shank kick after a TD for a 15 yard penalty, and a Wazzu kickoff return to midfield.Punt protection was horrendous. We all saw it. It wasn’t good. They definitely need to address it this off season. There’s always work to do.Just in the holiday bowl alone we had one punt block for a TD, another near punt block, a botched snap on a field goal, a shank kick after a TD for a 15 yard penalty, and a Wazzu kickoff return to midfield.
The scheme on punt blocking is completely wrong with only two players in the backfield. This has occurred all year, and if you watch any other team, they always have three players protecting the punter
Outside of the UNLV game, this was the worst ST performance all season.
Vollano needs to go; he’s responsible for this mess #D.A.R.T
