HCSS - Dont forget your home State (lessons learned from GRob)!

Here is a link that basically takes all the recruiting ranks out of it. This is where the NFL talent comes from. NY is right in the middle of the pack having the 17th most NFL players with a total of 28. Also check out NJ and PA, both in the top 8. I think this right here shows you that you can win if you can get the local, and regional talent. And this isn't all about NYC either. Mike Williams, Tyvon Branch, Will Allen, Chandler and Art Jones are all upstate NYers who are in the NFL

Perhaps we could hire Holley's coach in exchange for Holley's commitment? Works in other sports. ... joking. But maybe...

My belief regarding recruiting is that when you're first hired you have to do the areas you are comfortable/success and have relationships with first. While you're doing that you are trying to continue to build relationships in your area NY/PA/NJ. McDonald's strength I think, is Florida and a lot of the staff the midwest. We had a lot of our recruiters leave for Buffalo and obviously as many have pointed out our best downstate guy.

The keys are to spend the time wisely/tirelessly and to evaluate talented hs kids. From what SS said, he does want the gems from the state but isn't going to kiss their ring. Hopefully, the staffs evaluation hits NY harder than the others and to look under every rock possible. They will make mistakes and miss kids as every school does that but all we can ask is that they are working hard and efficiently while not living in the dark ages which it seems to me, this staff is on the correct path in getting this recruiting gig right.

I want to say Justin Noye (East High), Jalen Williams (Newburgh Free) and the interior lineman from Tottenville were offered by the prior staff, but weren't upheld by Shafer. Could be more, that's all I got for now.

So my follow up question would be, why weren't they upheld by Shafer? Laziness? Disorganization? Didn't think they were a good fit? I just hate analyzing this stuff in a bubble, as if we all know the staff is instantly making a mistake.

The landscape downstate had changed, coach Mac and then P did well in Long island back then. Most of the ny downstate guys were Long Island guys. That area has dropped off the map tenet wise

I wasn't saying it was a mistake at all, 2 of those guys I am willing to bet don't match the "speed" criteria Shafer seems to be emphasizing. But if you are trying to build recruiting in your home state sometimes you have to take a chance on some of these fringe guys.

I really dont have any gripes about HCSS coaching style.

However, I am critical of HCSS recruiting and he seems that doesn't yet realize that he making a huge mistake by following the same path as Grob regarding NYS recruiting and is currently in the process of burning many of the bridges that FHCDM rebuilt with the NY high school coaches around NYS (especially NYC coaches yes I have inside knowledge about what's going on around NYC and its really a shame but there is still time).

As HC of the only BCS team in NY, the NY high school coaches expect the HC from Syracuse to personally recruit instate. NO other coach in the nation has this opportunity to do this with the NYS high school coaches as the door is always open to the HC from SU - high school coaches have egos too and they need that TLC a HC from SU can give them. Its a tradition dating back to the Coach Mac years (maybe even before). I heard a speech given by Coach Mac a long time ago stating that once he regularly recruited the top 6-7 annually from NY, he started winning and winning big - same with Coach P.

As we know GRob literally "burned" all those bridges by going "national" in recruiting (idiot).

Early on FHCDM realized that Grob burned those relationships with NYS high school coaches leading to the "build a fence around NYS" campaign (remember that?). FHCDM understood this important lesson and went on every instate recruiting visit mainly to not only get quality recruits but to rebuild the recruiting relationships in NYS and especially NYC with the long term goal of getting the top 6-7 every year from NY - same as his mentor Coach Mac who gave him this advice!

GRob made the mistake of "going national" in recruiting...and its starting to smell like the same recruiting style is occurring with HCSS and his staff. Dont forget your home state HCSS - youre about to make the same huge mistake that GRob made!

Bunch of myths in there. Go look at the recruiting classes and the NY numbers.

Hunt, Broyld, Morgan, Reddish, MacFarlane are all young NYS players we're counting on.
You forgot Scissum, Foy, Palmer, Simmons, Fisher, Bromley, Welsh, Cornelius. That's 13 players from NY state that will play a role or already are.

Sorry but I have your number on this one. Not a good answer I expect better from you.
