I'm not going to tell my who my healthcare provide is, but it's name reminds you of a volcano. I came home the other day to hear an urgent message from the "volcano" The message lasted about 2 minutes, so I had to listen to the whole thing before I could delete it. I needed to call right away to hear the urgent message. They also gave me a 10 diget personal indentifacation number to enter. Boy, fearing eniment death, I called right away. I then had to identify my self, you know -address, Mothers DOB and Dog's maiden name etc.

I entered my secret 10 diget number. Wow, what was the important message? Was I gonna die? Have I been exposed to the plague? I was told to...

Get your flu shot

Give me a break. I had to enter my dog's date of birth to hear that? I had to go through all the HIPAA crap to hear that. I feel better now.

Note

Noted. It's still crap that they called
A "provider" is normally a doctor or some other office providing health services (imaging, lab, etc), NOT a health insurance company. Either way, an "urgent" flu shot message requiring all that PII reeks of a scam.

I think you got scammed
I would NEVER give out my personal info over the phone unless I knew the number I was calling. If I got that call I would have called the number on my insurance card and verify they were doing this. I work for a healthcare company and we would never do this kind of call.

You should check with your insurance agency ASAP. I think you were scammed into giving away all that personal information. It could be a ploy used for identity theft. You might want to think about changing all your passwords on your banking and credit card accounts.

It was his doctor’s office that called not insurance agency.
I think he used some dramatic license but the call was otherwise legit.

I got the impression the call was from his health insurer whose name is reminiscent of a volcano (Aetna?).
