Hell yeah!!!

I’ll expand on my “we are back”

It was the first time in years I felt the OOMPH of almost taking down a top 5 team. Having graduated in the mid 90s this was a monthly thing

I just like the feeling. I even felt nostalgic about missing free throws

We aren’t perfect and it’s a year by year thing now. But this is a good team that can play defense again

Feels like we will have something to argue about in March. That is a good feeling

Happy Thanksgiving

We are not going to win shooting 12 - 29 FT (that's 17 misses) 17 points - worse than the Monmouth game where we were 19-33 14 misses. This is a good team but we have to make our FT's. It negates all we do that's good.
It kills momentum. I’m shocked it didn’t demoralize us last night, but they didn’t let it bother them. Pretty remarkable!

Not good enough. It’s a loss. A loss that could have been a win with fundamentals…
Yes, it we shot free throws better, we win. Yes there are areas where we need improvement. We also took the #3 team in the country into overtime! There is something to celebrate in this game. Now on to today and Kansas!

I guess foul shots are fundamentals. If I were on the team I would hit the gym and shoot them every day on my own time.

I mean they must already be doing that, right?? They aren’t just missing them, they look like they have never attempted to shoot a basketball before. It’s truly bizarre.

We lost in OT to a top 3 team without arguably our best player, and people are complaining. I get the FT shooting was putrid and literally cost us, but the positives from today far outweigh the negatives. This showed we can play with anybody on our schedule. Other than Duke, there isn't a team we'll face on or near Houston's level.

Houston was a missed opportunity that might end up costing us. We’re going to lose more close games due to ft shooting. This kansas game is exactly why some moral victory last night is meaningless. We’re dangerously close to having nothing to show in non conference and having to dig out.

Forget the outcome of the game, I was looking for cues as to what we have here. The absolute biggest thing to me was this team played defense at a level I was not sure was possible with Autry as the coach. I was very concerned that no matter how good the talent, he couldn’t coach defense well enough to win. Tonight I felt like I saw a high energy defense that remained credible throughout the game. Yes there were a few errors but Houston had errors too and nobody questions their D. The second biggest thing was the sustained energy, agressiveness, and intensity the team showed which was another thing I have not seen Autry produce in his previous seasons. Both of these are very positive. The free throw shooting was an atrocity that the UN should be looking into. The fact that is extends to every player on the team is absolutely curious and does make me think we should fire Fran Brown and 2 Economics professors to be named later. Stay tuned on that part.
I don't know that I can say I've ever seen defensive effort sustained for a whole game like that from any Syracuse team I've watched. I'm not saying it was the best defense we've had, because we've had better players and the zone at its best befuddle teams, but the consistent effort was great. It was nice seeing them hound guys so far past the three point line and using some brief 3/4 pressure as a change up too.

Comment suggests you know nothing about basketball. Played hard on both ends. Took a well coached team to wire. FTs shooting is on the player.
What’re you gonna say when we get to March and don’t get in due to lack of key wins?

To me the positive perspective is that I can live with this being a moral victory, if this is the standard that we play with the rest of the year.

Time will tell.
effort has been a roller coaster so far and I expect that to continue

If you practice bad form, you will continue to have bad form.

The shot was blocked. JFC
The secondary defender definitely made a loud smack on Kyle's forearm. Should have been two to possibly win the game...

There are close defeats and then there are close defeats. The Houston game was not a game like Texas last year where we put up a solid fight then petered out down the stretch. We literally had the game won, if not for shooting an entirely free and uncontested shot from 15 feet with unlimited time, at a percentage considered pretty good for three point shots in a live game with guys closing out on you. It is a completely and totally unheard of way to lose. It's like losing a football game off of going 1-8 on extra points and having two guys drop the ball before running in the end zone. If we had only a historically bad day from the free throw line we win. We actually had the #3 team in the country beat if a 6th grade team shot our free throws for us.

I don't know what you call that, but it is not in the "moral victory" category. It's not a case of us being close but not good enough. We were legitimately good enough to beat Houston! If not for the equivalent of lightning striking the same place 1,000 times in a row! Ugh. I still just can't believe it. I can't think of a more stressful team to be a fan of than one that looks actually pretty great in most categories, except the easiest part of the game that everyone knows about from their first days playing basketball. We are cursed y'all. To be a cuse fan is to enter the deepest circle of hell, leave, and willingly come back the next day.

Now, what cooler than being cool?

That’s obviously an exaggeration. That team wins.
Christmas, Lydon, Hughes, Battle, Mintz...

Edwards, Richardson, George and Brissett first four off the bench.

Pick your bottom five randomly from starters the last decade.

That team would be pretty good.

There’s 3 exclamation points after Hell yeah in the thread title lmao. The present Orange Standard. We get what we tolerate.

Hell yeah!!! More moral victories after this horrible loss to ISU and 0-3 finish in this tournament!! Watch out ACC and NCAA, we’ll be making noise in the tournament this season!!
