Herbstreit on FSU

I don’t think his intention was to disrespect SU by lumping us in with Samford. I think it was more about how far Florida State has fallen, given what Samford is and how bad we’ve been for the last few years.

It was much more about FSU than us.
I like when SU fans and alumni stick up for people running the Orange down, which is what he was doing.

If he wasn't a shill and was an honest analyst of college football, he might say something about how this is Babers 3rd season and he has them looking on the move with a likely 4-0 start. I believe that is what most knowledgeable college football followers around the country think.
Exactly. And if if he were to add that the last 2 years we started strong but faded- but this year looks to be different. That’s an honest appraisal, not matter-of-factly equating our program with FCS Samford, FFS!

Have you noticed our record for the last couple decades? It's up to SU to change the public's perception. Not the talking heads. Losing out after beating Clemson last year doesn't help.

Beat Clemson again, or win 7-8 games, and that perception will begin to change.

Anybody who follows college at all seriously has seen and is aware of how coaches in their 3rd season can really get something cooking. Especially when you have a QB like Dungey. He's doing his job to hold us down.

lol. We've also seen plenty of coaches canned after their 3rd season. The only thing that has held us down is us. And winning on the field is the only thing that will elevate the discussion with Kirk, et al.

He used a well worn sophic technique putting Syracuse football in the same sentence as Samford football. Do you know how many millions of people will here that? Many, many millions.

Do you know how many people will know we're back if we win 7-8 games and play in a bowl? Many, many millions.

Who cares what people hear? WE change people's perception. Not Kirk Herbstreit.

An astute college football analyst would know Syracuse played FSU to the wire on the road last year, and also beat Clemson and played Miami and LSU to the the wire on the road. They’d note that Syracuse is starting to look like a program on the rise.

To not see SU that way it seems you’d have to be: 1)Anti-Cuse 2)Not paying attention or 3) A long suffering SU fan who doesn’t want to get his hopes up too early.

He’s clearly not number 3, so...

Most people who post here are 3's with a couple of 1's and 2's. No he is a pro and he works for people like Urban Meyer and Delaney.

He’s 2.

There are something like 125 D1 football programs.

With the exception of a couple years under Marrone, we’ve been much closer to 125 rather than the top 25 for the last decade and a half.

I don’t expect a guy like Herbstreit to know, or remember, much about our program at this point.

And regardless of whom we beat and whom we played close, at the end of the day, we’re still 8-16 over the last two seasons.

Reverse that and get ranked and Herbie, and everyone else outside Orangeland, will start knowing a lot more about our program.

Herbie never says much more than the obvious. He doesn't seem to care beyond the top 25 (maybe only the top 10).
That said, Cuse football has not deserved much respect until now so, it is not unreasonable that we have few believers beyond where the vale of Onondaga meets the Eastern sky.

When we finish better than 6-6 and make a bowl, things will start to change. This team is loaded with young talent, which will be evident before the season is over. Next year's preseason ACC rankings will not have us in last place.

That’s ok. I remember being at the bowl game in Florida where we gave Herbie and TOsu a beat down. ( I can’t remember the name of the bowl though! Lol )

We need to win. Period

Not for nothing - FSU went on to beat Northern Illinois (who has a defense ranked higher than ours and a crappy O).

I’m rooting for them to find their footing. Will help us with perception down the road.

Always root for your opponents when they aren't playing you. you are what you eat.

Mad props for working in the alma mater into that take!

Fair enough.
But dammit, we’re NOT Samford!
Putting us as equivalent to them is taking a gratuitous shot at the program, laziness be damned.
That’s all I’m saying.

I agree with your premise but 7-5 doesnt change perceptions much
