Here is what I can PROMISE all the "fire Shafer" people

people are getting fooled by 28 points defensive/overtime points in 5 games.

"i don't know why we are so bad at gaining yards and so good at scoring but whatever, keep it up"

we have a great QB, a promising RB, talented WR and the offense is still pretty bad at moving the ball. that means someone's gotta go. doesn't have to be shafer
That's fine, regarding defensive/OT points. But still, six games into the season, we have more offensive touchdowns (20) than we did all of last season (18). That's got to be worth something.

Coach P went 39-33 over his last 6 seasons, and the majority of the internet wanted him fired.

GRob and Marrone COMBINED didn't get to 39 wins, in 8 seasons.

Silly internet.
the internet wanted GRob?

lester was here last year too.

Agree, regarding the potential pipelines they've opened up. They've made HUGE inroads at some major schools that produce a ton of big time talent (particularly in Florida, and to an extent New Jersey). It would suck to see that all get thrown way.

Why are we assuming that the next HC won't have similar or even better connections? Or that a guy like Acosta won't be kept on staff?

lester was here last year too.

Lester's QB wasn't [by the time he took over OC, we were on our 3rd and 4th stringers]. His system wasn't implemented, either, and the OL was ransacked by injuries.

I don't see how last year's historically bad offensive futility can be pinned on Lester--at all.

Statistically our O isn't' much better though. That is the issue. It is perception. We are producing at a 2013 level on O. We are young but just because they are young doesn't mean they will end up being good. Whigham looked great when he was young too. As did McFarlane and Morris. Now that these guys are older they suck and the young guys are playing. Our young defenders have shown us nothing so far.
We're scoring 15 points more a game. What in God's name are you talking about?

lester was here last year too.
And he's said he didn't change from McDonald's system because he figured it would be a bad idea to completely throw out the playbook and try to install a 100% new offense in the middle of the season.

I highly doubt that. First this transfer talk is silly. It just doesn't happen. This isn't basketball. If a kid wants to leave their options are limited to 1AA. Secondly you are assuming that the new HC isn't a better recruiter than Shafer and doesn't have recruiting ties to high schools already. Then you are also assuming that the new HC is as bad at actually coaching football as Shafer has been. Unless you bring in GRob it is almost impossible to be worse than we currently are. Even if Shafer makes it to next year he will have our 2nd worst winning % of our last 7 coaches. He is not even as good as Maloney.

I'm not sure what fantasy world you live in, but kids transfer from BCS schools to other BCS schools all the time. For example, Kansas alone has 9 BCS transfers on their roster. NINE.

And he's said he didn't change from McDonald's system because he figured it would be a bad idea to completely throw out the playbook and try to install a 100% new offense in the middle of the season.
then he should've been able to run that offense better considering he'd worked in it for a year in a half.

if that offense was so bad, then this year's should be a lot better. once you take out defensive and OT scores, you're not looking at that much. and most of that is attributable to dungey being way better than hunt. do we let lester keep the job with this stupid offense just because he found dungey? i guess i could be convinced but this offense is really weird

Thanks to the D and OT. S&P+ which tries to take into account situation and SOS:

2015 83rd
2014 110th
2013 75th

The best Ds on our schedule are coming up so it would be a surprise to see this years O move very much. We are also getting less ypg and per play this year vs the McDonald games last year.

Thanks to the D that you've trashed like 3 times in this thread? Are you seriously with a straight face saying last years offense is the same level as this one? No help for you if you believe that.

ok then they should be better at running the ball with healthier players under his system. they aren't because his offense is goofy

Im not going to lie, its easy to get mad at the coach after a loss. I wanted to join the picket line. But after you settle down, you realize there is a lot more to it, and no coach is perfect. I still believe in shafer. I still think he succeeds here. Do i think he does some dumb things? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, i think his overall strengths win out and he brings us back to relevency and hopefully beyond.

Do I think it is better? No. Statistically is it better? Yes. I am not saying it is better the stats are.

Good grief.
he gets no credit for how bad they were last year even though he really was there getting paid

and this year he gets for credit defensive scores and OTs extended in part by a bad defense

it's going to be just like last year where everyone hangs their hat on one game where they didn't get blown out by a good team

if they start throwing more and running fewer guys not named fredericks, he can stay. he got dungey after all. adam has to go no matter what

No. But there is no consensus that it's a "stupid offense" that's your opinion. It may be. It also might be okay and it's being run by young inconsistent players.

This years offense is better at some things and it's clear that the organizational bits are way better.

i don't care what the consensus is.

Scott Shafer was not hired in a rebuild situation. He was talking over a program that gone 25-25 in the previous 4 years. I wasn't a fan of his hiring when it took place. I thought we rushed the decision and were unlucky Marrone left so late in the process.

SS did a good job in 2013, 2014 was a bad job, 2015 we have been good on offense which was my biggest complaint.
If we finish 3-9 he should be fired. 4-8 give him another year.
At 13-24 that is a clear step back and we should move on. Atleast with 4-8 we can sell we improved and Vegas had our O/U at 4.5.

If players transfer that would suck but I always willingly to give a new coach 1 honeymoon year.

With 3 different QB's and mid game "sudden" QB situations. Red Zone is roughly a billion times better.

The "production" the last 7 games last year was the best thing that could have happened for Lester, Ironically he was in charge of that "production." What we have done this year statistically isn't any better than what McDonald did his 18 games here.

you're going to see a 5-6 win finish with shafer staying and bullough getting the axe. they cant play this system with poor personnel. I think we all agree that last year's defense had talent in the front 7, but the system failed them at times. you may see doust get the bump just to retain him on the staff but the system wont change.

Tough situation but i dont think you see shafer go just yet.
