Hey! Why Not Mahoney?

Wilson has a strong arm. He can throw... his issue is in reading the coverage. I recall that Trudo was calling the coverage for Dungey. If we need him why not use Wilson and have Trudo call coverage.
No trudo calls protections. A QB has to read coverage

Watch Mahoney's HUDL videos. He can lead receivers on 30-40 yard routes - his arm is strong enough to do that. He's the closest thing to Dungey that we have right now and hopefully he gets the opportunity to play the whole game. I think it's important for continuity with this offensive system. Putting Wilson in limits things and that's not going to help Dungey when he comes back.

This is his high school video:

Very Dungey esque.
Let's hope he has a nice highlight reel after Saturday, and maybe even make the plays of the day...

It didn't matter who played QB in DeLeone's offense?

Did I hallucinate 1999 through 2004?
It did't matter because it stopped working all-together. ;)

The NFL & McNabb changed Deleone. After he came back we saw very little option. We were a pro style O during his 2nd stint as OC. Yes our QBs were not great runners but IMO he wouldn't have been 1987-1996 Deleone even if he did. Also during that time Option Os were seen as being too old school which I am sure hurt recruiting. That could have been another factor in the change.

That all being said you are right that it did matter who was QB. There is a reason why we had dips in between McPherson, Graves, and McNabb.

DeLeone explained that our QBs were not quick enough to run the freeze option after McNabb.

nothing wrong with his film.. somewhat elusive, decent arm. when he got his feet set he puts the ball where it needs to be, he wont gun it through a car wash, but he has pretty good timing and throws a nice high deep ball, i dont think he throws the INT like Wilson did last week when you have to get the ball out in front of the play. it will be interesting to see if we throw more on early downs this week to help him out a bit with pressure.

The most important thing we need to do on Saturday is open up some holes for our running backs. Get Jordan Fredericks out there and put him in a position to do some damage. That's our best bet to keep things close. Mahoney needs to complete some passes to keep the defense honest, but our chances of moving the ball rest on the shoulders of our OL and RB.

I can't agree more. 3rd and 10's will be very tough on the kid - given the speed LSU has on D.

From the film, Mahoney appears to be the Mitch Kimble that we lost.

No harm no foul no Austin Wilson (just doesn't fit with what we want to do).

One thing I like about his film is that he is literally constantly harassed by defensive players busting through the line and he shows level headedness and creativeness when dealing with that.

You can't teach that.

Yeah - that's him being mini-Dungey for sure.

Anybody could throw 3 perfect bombs against our defense...:(
Thought the same about our secondary reading that originally. But my point was more about Zach's ability to accurately execute the bombs in the first place.

Those deep throws had way too much air. If he does that against LSU - Automatic INT. hopefully this was addressed in the mechanics lester spoke of at his presser. Not that I think he will be slining many bombs.

Would think the HUDL high school bombs of 3 (?) years ago look quite different from now, especially with aforementioned mechanics work. Bris is fast and Ish is fast enough and runs good routes. Both should be able to get open if they can get off the line. Think we'll take a few shots, if OL can protect and the run works even a little that is. But Ed O and their DL will be fired up and aggressive, we know that much.

I just hope the kid can get out of bed on Sunday. This is setting up for a monumental beat down. I just hope he prefers throwing the ball away as opposed to ill advised throws. Run the ball keep the clock moving and get it over with... Watching this game will be like a route canal.

A couple were mini-Nunes (if that's possible). He can't get caught trying too hard to make a play on Saturday. 0 yards is better than disaster.

This is likely going to be ugly, but Mahoney is absolutely the right choice. He could end up doing horribly, but I think there is more upside with him, and he fits Lester's offense. We know what we have with Wilson, which isn't much, and he doesn't fit the scheme. Seems like a great kid but gotta go Zach.

Yep. This is gonna be bad. Ugh on national TV too. Figures.
