Where would BJ be ranked as a burger boy player? That's why I slowed him down to reload by giving him the extra year. I will say this though, there is not a better 19 yr old coming to any college especially having played on this level moving forward.

Wish he had used the shirt here...

All of sudden he starts shooting 50% from 3-point range and La Salle goes to the NCAA tournament facing the Orange in the first round.

Just curious why you (jointly) decided not to red shirt here?

Scholarship reductions mean that SU cannot afford to use on a schollie on a guy who cannot play?

Did you read the Sports Illustrated cover story about Frank Kaminsky two weeks ago?

As a freshman at Wisconsin, his stats (including playing time) were almost invisible, and, in his words, "I was scared to even go to the lane; if you saw me in there it was because I got lost."

When I read that article about SI's 2015 "player of the year," my first thought was to think about how much growth and improvement BJ could show in the next three years.

Best of luck, Bobby. He seems like a fine young man, and with a dad like you, I'm sure he will do well in life.

Exactly, the reduction secondly did not allow for it. So moving on was the best thing for BJ's physical growth.
Everyone understands that. But BJ could have, and should have redshirted as a Freshman (at Syracuse).

Time on the floor, and then the ship situation would have been a greater gamble on BJ's career at this point as a junior along with physical growth if the ships weren't reduced moving forward. That would have been a bad decision. It made sense to move on with three years to grow and still play 2 years.

Not sure I understand the question? Where would BJ be ranked as a burger boy player?

I think it will wind up being a very wise decision and although I hate to see BJ go (since i expect him to be very productive) I understand it from both His/Your perspective and SU's. Again best of luck to you and BJ and I hope things are amicable between you guys and the SU staff.

I couldn't put weight on until I was almost 20 years old no matter what I did and then it just kicked in and I started filling out. My body type was still ectomorph but I was able to put on weight and my torso thickened up. I expect at some point very soon this will happen for BJ. We can't all be like Lebron putting on our man muscle at 15.

Let me finally clear this up for you. When Bj arrived initially it was thought that he would redshirt but he played well enough in Canada (10ppg, 5rpg) that it was said that he would play some minutes at the 2. But if you recall that season, even though the team went 25-0 the team struggled and the games were very close in occ games at the dome and everywhere else. That resulted in the plan going south. A gamble that lost a year and it made sense to do it this year when you added in all the factors. Talent was never an issue to play in the ACC. He was recruited by every team except duke, nc, va and lville prior to the early signing period at the beginning of his senior year. I hope that answers you question.

I was like BJ coming into college at 17, and was recruited to play football on the D II level. Problem was i still hadn't really hit my stride in terms of body mass development. I had reached peak height but was as skinny as can be. Around 19 i started to naturally build mass that pushed me from a skinny 145 pounds to around 175 with solid shoulders and ability to build muscle very quickly. Hopefully BJ has the same thing happening now. Just don't make the mistake that i made and not take the hint that if i could gain 30 pounds much of it muscle, that i could easily pop 30 ponds of fat on top of it.

Good luck to BJ and you and your family. It was great getting updates about BJ and the team from you. Really gave some of us an inside look from a player's perspective. Thank you and BJ for the time spent here and really hope everything works out for BJ. Definitely will keep an eye on Lasalle and especially BJ over the next few year. Sad to him and you move on, but gotta do what is best!

EDIT: Just wanted to also mention that you, BJ and you family have been class acts the whole time! Great see to see people of high, classy character now a days!!

The coaches were great at SU and under the situation it was the best thing for us going forward. See you have to look at this a business for amateur student athletes. Although the business is a growing profitable organization, the question becomes where does bj fit in the business and what's the best for him both athletically and academically. Also for some of the folks on SU dot com wondering about Bj's academics. He is an economics major with a 3.0 or better. This move also allows him get his masters.

his question is where he would be ranked if he were like a lot of the other Mcdonalds all Americans who are lat 18/early 19 years old coming out of high school. At least i believe thats what he meant

I'd say top 50. He wouldn't be a mcdonalds all American.

I think that is the best part of the whole thing!

Makes a lot more sense now. Thanks for posting that.

Really wish he was still wearing Orange next year, but sounds like you've got a great path laid out in front of him for success. Good luck to him. And well done on the academics as well.

Not that you owed anyone an explanation, it was interesting to hear of your reasoning on his transfer. Also pleased to hear that you and BJ don't hold ill will toward the coaches. As everyone has stated, good luck to your son. I remember when I was attending and playing hoops a local high school (Westtown School), my favorite team was Lasalle and Kenny Durett (sp?).

If he left school with a masters, that would just be spectacular no matter what his future may hold - and I sure will be cheering that it involves the pros. Good luck to both of you at LaSalle. Thanks for all your insight and for handling this transfer with so much class.

So BJ is really the first casualty of the NCAA punishment.

Too bad.

I think your son is going to be a terrific player when all is said and done and I wish it could have been in Orange...

Cant be any casualties, because the NCAA is all about protecting the student athlete.
