I really don't understands what constitutes a good QBR? What does it define? Honest question.

it tries to factor in rushing. i'm all for that ( i try to be careful and say passer rating instead of qb rating but sometimes i slip) but it's too much of a black box for me. at least with a plain old qb rating, everyone can see the factors and judge whether they're rightI really don't understands what constitutes a good QBR? Licata's performed very well against OSU and well against Baylor.
I'm not gonna bash Hunt.
I'm not trying to turn this into a discussion where Hunt or Licata are criticized.
My whole point is about comparing Licata's performance versus Hunt and that, if you want to go beyond arbitrary judgements, I'd like to see data/statistics that shows the level of competition that Licata is facing this year vs the level of competition that Hunt is facing this year.
Without diving into the data, I'd bet that Hunt has faced (cumulatively) better defenses than Licata. I'm basing that on the fact that Syracuse is (cumulatively) facing higher-ranked teams (according to coach's polls) with players who had higher rankings either out of high school or in college or both.
I know Buffalo has played OSU and Baylor. They've also faced much weaker teams.
I understand Buffalo has a pretty decent team and that Licata is, from the little that I've seen, an underrated prospect and college QB.
I don't see how Licata is a better QB than Hunt.
Marrone didn't offer Licata. He didn't think he was good enough to play here. But he thought Loeb and kinder were. Obviously he's not a good judge of talent at the QB position. Licata is also better than Hunt.
Still better at recruiting QB's than Mack Brown...Loeb was recruited after Marrone took over with about a month to recruit players, comparing that to being able to evaluate a kid over a 2 year recruiting cycle is being unfair at best.
Kinder - that's another story.
I've been waiting for the "Should have gone after Licata" hand-wringers.
Before last night, he's thrown for: 169, 285, 167. 125, and 224 against MAC opponents. (Those numbers are most recent to former) Not exactly setting the world on fire here, but he did only throw 1 pick in those five games.
Buffalo leans heavily on a running back (at least 28 carries a game) and does not put the ball in Licata's hands if they don't have to.
