The annual Orange Club golf outing was held yesterday at Seneca Falls Country Club.

I played in it with upperdeck and a couple guys not on the board. I believe we finished tied for 3rd with a score of 63.

The course was in excellent shape. First time all year i played a course up here that was fully dry. There were less teams than they have had in past years. Organizers said it was because other tournaments have popped up and stolen some participants.

It was a nice day. They still had the steak sandwiches, keg of beer (and soda and water) you could stop by to get food and drink as desired during the round. And the steak sandwiches were still solid. They also had cheeseburger sliders and Hofmann hotdogs despite being in Zeigle territory.

Afterwards, we gathered for drinks and then had a nice steak dinner. Matt Park emceed the dinner and did his usual professional job announcing winners, pulling numbers for the 50-50 and prize drawings.

He also took some questions and talked briefly about the team. Said he has moved close to the practice fields and data there are 50 players out there pre ring in their own every day.

Said Angeli is the clubhouse leader to start at QB. Said he felt we have a very good WR room with lots of talent the staff is very high on.

Fran did not come. I don’t think any assistants came. They had Matt Patk and maybe a few GAs and kids from the ticket office there. Gotta be hard to get coaches out there in the middle of a fierce recruiting period.

It cost $160 to play Ana that includes lots of steak sandwiches, all the beer or soda you could drink and a nice steak dinner afterwards. If this event is to continue, we have to get more people to attend. Want to encourage people on the board to consider coming (we had a number of others from our tailgate there). Props to George Jones for running this but he needs more people from Syracuse, Rochester and Binghamton to come for this to survive.

This has been a good event for like 30 yrs. Right in our own back yard and we seem to have a complete lack of interest. SU has been pretty good over the years with support and access. Given the cost of the NIL events this is low budget. But as Tomcat says if we don't support it, there is a good chance it dies off as well.

We don't get that many events where the common fan can get to ask questions and do it face to face.

Babers was great and came most every year. I doubt we get Fran or coaches to show up if people won't attend. Honestly the event should probably cost more and try to raise money to show Athletics they should support it. But you still need people to step up.

Matt has been great in coming every year. But we have had many coaches, some years the entire staff. If we wont support the event the Ath dept is sure not going to support the event. I don't know if a different part of the year would help. That would be a question that needs to be asked of the SU part of the equation. The new recruiting and camp stuff adds a twist. The week before at the NIL event SU found time to get people out there. Many years we have had close to the 36 teams to fill the course.

Huge dropoff this year and its not like people knew going in who was showing up from SU. Fran could have been there like Babers who came every year and $150 to play golf and talk with the coach is a pretty good deal.

I do think the organizers need to step up a bit and see who they can contact to see if SU wants to continue with it if they don't plan on sending anyone from the actual football staff. The perk was always coaches and the like at a really good value price.

Even in the past though when SU was sending the entire staff the support from this board has been pretty weak with maybe 4-8 people from here showing up.

How many played in the NIL one last week where it was real big money that paid out of their own pocket?

I, honestly, would partake but I didn’t even realize this was a thing… I also have the attention span of a squirrel so that might be on me.
We posted on the board and tweaked that thread several times to try and generate interest.
