Hmmm

If I had to guess, I'd guess Perles.

He's building a nice resume, and he's a guy who moves around a lot.

Perles was an out of work (for a season) journeyman when he was hired. He had a good year, no doubt about it, but I'm not sure it's enough to get him a much better gig.

Because even though I left central NY some 25 years ago, I still have that darn pessimism in-bred in me. ;)

Besides, how often is football news, good news?

Cheers,
Neil

Bingo, Syracuse has had a pretty good stretch the last two months on the field and recruiting wise so I guess were overdue for the annual Syracuse letdown moment. In all seriousness I really hope its not Mcdonald from a recruiting perspective that would be a huge blow.

His brand is recruiting, that attracts a lot of schools including the big boys, a power team coming off a down year could easily make a play for him.

What power team is going to make him OC coming off of a year where the offense he took was significantly worse in every category other than rushing?

And he wanted to run a pass oriented offense when all the talent on the roster screamed power run with a QB suited to do it on the roster.

He started getting it late in the year, but it was painful to watch. And he still 'ed up the game plan and game management against Pitt.

While all or at least some of that may be true... Cool Kid would far and away be the biggest loss possible from our staff.

Not to mention he's the associate HC in addition to being the OC.

Damn it, now I will be refreshing this thread until the news comes out

As I noted in my original post it would be based on his reputation as a great recruiter and like us they would hope he could develop into the role especially now that he has had a year calling plays. From a play calling standpoint I agree with your points especially the Pitt game that was brutal. But as you noted he was pretty good for the BC and Minny games and seemed to find a much better flow late in the season. Again based on his acumen for recruiting, wouldn't shock me at all if someone took a run at him hoping he can keep improving as a play caller while they rely on his recruiting abilities.

Plus if your going by the amount of luck this program has had the last decade and a half this would be the classic Syracuse kick in the teeth we get on a yearly basis.

I can see Smith getting hired off of this year, he doesn't have any strong ties to Shafer or this program if I'm not mistaken and his guys had an excellent year.

I could see Moore going to the NFL.

Maybe Reed gets let go in favor of a recruiter, Shafer is more than able to help out there.

Lea is a Bullough guy, not a Shafer or SU guy, and like Smith his unit had a great year.

Maybe Doust gets a shot a DC at a MAC school.

Smith or Moore would make a lot of sense.

The schools you are talking about are not OJT schools. And if MacDonald is smart, and I think he is, he knows the only way he grows his career is to get away from being seen as a recruiter first. And he has a reputation of being a very short termer.

And this isn't his first rodeo, he was OC for two years at Western Michigan.

The smart move for him is to stay he a couple of more years, grow on the job, and show he can really build and run a top end offense. He does that the sky is the limit.

McDonald was really hurt at the backlash he received during the year on his sputtering offense. I wouldn't be surprised if he bolted.

Speculation or inside info?

Hoping it isn't McD, Lester, Perles, Daoust, Lea, Bullough, Smith, White... in no particular order..

LOL. He appears to be a bit sensitive, yes. He should definitely try to catch on at a B1G, SEC or Big 12 school, those fans are well-known for being pleasant and accomadating.

Backlash? IMO much of the criticism was justified, including the decision to start the season with Allen at QB. Hell, this board is even critical of a HoF coach like Boeheim.
Despite the occasional criticism, I get the impression McDonald is generally well-thought of and I hope he doesn't go anywhere. I would love to see how some of his recruits impact on our offense in the coming years. Him leaving now would be a huge blow to the program.

3 teams in a 12 months period seems like an unlikely career move - especially when he's really not proven anything yet in the current role - would think after all his jumping around he'll stick with his buddy for 3 seasons to show what he can do - and then make the jump. He hasn't even closed out a recruiting class yet (last year doesn't count) which is what he is known for.

If I had to guess, it is Smith.

I believe he was the coach that started the season in the booth with GMac and was later replaced by Lester. Maybe that didn't sit too well with him.

Can we please replace whoever is leaving with somebody who has good ties to NJ and the Northeast?

what board I am on now.....Syracuse or rutgirls.

I get it is the dead period, but without proof there will be a meltdown as it appears this is heading and every coach has been named.
