Did anyone believe that the old-time money bags were suddenly going to enjoy the long, slow process when they can simply do what they have done for half a century or more? Simply give the money to the player or a family member is much easier. And tax-free to the recipient, if he keeps his mouth shut.

Not that I approve of the above, just stating the process that was in place.

I agree with this, the players want to be treated as adults, breaking agreements carry penalties. Let them pay-up.
