Shafer was absolutely the right hire. What external candidates out there are a better candidate than a guy who helped bring this program back from the ashes? He's passionate, he's experienced, the players love playing for him. The man earned the head coaching job in the trenches with the other two right beside him. The other two chose to follow the natural path of NFL guys.
Hackett has done a fantastic job running the offense. I would have preferred that he stayed. But he chose to leave and I understand the decision. But what better time to bring in a new OC? It's not like any of our quarterbacks have the reps from this year to run the offense anyway. If it only took two weeks to put in the offense we ran this year, then why can't we put in a new offense over an entire spring?
This football program will be fine. I'm looking forward to some ACC excitement next year.
