How can we beat Texas

Tbf he doesn’t have turnovers because he’s barely handling the balls. He brings it over and hands it to JJ or Eddie. He gets some hockey assists here and there

With him on the floor we are playing 4 on 5 both ways right now. Against Youngstown it was like 3 on 5 with Bell out there and how poorly Bell was playing at times.

Everyone pretty much knows the answer, we have to play good defense and need someone to step up and be the leader every game on the court.
Trying to be optimistic here and say maybe this is the type of team that plays up and down to the level of competition they are up against and come out focused and determined to get the W.

We're shooting 25% from 3, 64% from the line with 10 TOs per game.

Those numbers need to get better and it'll solve a lot of problems.

Do you believe we are getting good shots? If not, what can we do to get better looks?

The foul shots are all good looks :)

We have some wasted 3s by guys that should likely forget taking them, coming off the bench and letting it fly. Those are just turnovers. Bell has clanked plenty of clean looks and Donnie should work inside out more than he has so far (but that seemingly starting to happen).

Another key to beating Texas is getting Lampkin as many three point looks as possible since he currently leads the entire country in three point shooting percentage (100%, 1-1).
I agree...

Lampkin needs more threes, and Bell needs more dribbles.

Edit. Colgate has had their top two scorers (cox who tore us up and their center injured in mid 1st half) out most of the half. Once again not certain what is the truth. Not sure I could handle the truth either.
I was watching when Cox went down in the back end of the first half. NC State was beating Colgate by 17 at that point. Would have been a blowout either way.

I'm still holding out hope Red can teach them defense in a hurry. You could tell realization set in that he's in trouble after the Colgate game. It's on him for not realizing it earlier, but maybe he just didn't realize it and now will be able to make them at least serviceable. They are a collection of bad defenders, but they also look lost out there which is something Red can fix. We'll know by January what he's capable of.

We knew in Maui last year, I fear we may know after game four.

Carlos is such a different player that I wonder if there is something going on with him. Hard to believe that it was just Hofstra's style of play masking his weaknesses; he doesn't seem the same. Hopefully everything is okay with him.

The guards defend like they have a shot blocker behind them. That’s the most perplexing part. If we had a shot blocker like Naheem back there all game then some of the defensive strategy ( focus on “some”) would make sense.

I still think this team could run a passable zone for 15 mins a game or so. Donnie does a good job high pointing rebounds and Davis is aggressive too. There is a place to have a more diverse defensive approach with this roster

To just add- there is some things that can obviously be coached up. The biggest are( order is irrelevant).

1- fighting over screens - this is a major issue.
2- taking away a drivers strong hand following the scouting report
3- don’t pass off a driver to a shot blocker if you don’t have a shot blocker ( trying not to add a lol on this)
4- call out and quickly react to rotate when a driver cuts to the rim to cover the cutter and the wings spotting up.
5- decision making off of missed shots in terms of attacking the boards vs getting back. 2 guys should be coming back every possession and the forwards have to sprint back to cover trailing shooters once the other team has possession

These 5 are standing out every game. I don’t expect perfection but just being 30 pct better at each of these would be a game changer for this team.

Good summary.

we will be running some zone as well. not sure how it will help but since our men get beat in every P&R maybe we can throw them off a possession here and there.

I have not watched Texas yet this year. I would say not allowing Tre Johnson to go crazy and doing a good job rebounding the basketball along with making foul shots. We would also need JJ to play really well and Bell to be hitting shots and engaged.

reading this thread you would think texas is the larry bird celtics...lol

theyre not that good, guys...

i mean i get it...the orange defense has been a trainwreck...but texas doesnt actually seem all that great

its not going to take a miracle or anything
Nutty. For a week or more, I’ve been seeing posts about how we’re going to be annihilated by Texas. I’m only now seeing that Texas isn’t even a ranked team. Gracious—when was the last time we’ve been so pessimistic about our chances? I haven’t even seen counters by the Orange-lenses glasses contingent. It’s kinda surreal, the state of us.
