How Do We Know that Chestnut etc...

The amount of players that go into the portal not knowing where they’re going to go is surprisingly low. Heck, I think we end up with a portal player that we received interest from before his name was in there.

I would not hold your breathe on Deuce and Carter coming back.

Apparently 75% of players do just that.

You are saying 75% players that enter the portal come back to the school they are leaving?
If it’s 1300 kids, 975 come back
You have a link for this or just guessing?

I believe someone posted that roughly 75% of players entering the portal don't get to a new school. I could be wrong.

According to this article its more around 50%, which isn't great but I imagine a lot of that 50% is lower level players, walkons, backups etc. We already saw Jeremiah Wilson come back, but P5 starters like Chestnut and Carter know they have schools willing to take them.

I guess if you factor in kids that go anywhere at all I could see it higher then I’m thinking
But Deuce and Carter do not seem like they will be back

I still don't get why starters leave unless it's only for a huge payday

Not every player is the same of course, but their DC Tony White left. It's possible someone like Duce wants to go and play for his DC in Nebraska. It's also possible they leave and find NIL money elsewhere. It's never just black and white. There are so many factors that can force a kid to jump in the portal

That links us to this:

Under "sport", change 'all' to "Football-FBS", (click the box and unclick "All") and you find that 5% withdraw from the portal, 54% find a new home in Division I, (which could be FCS) and 41% remain in the portal, (as of when they published this), transfer to a non-NCAA school, (the NAIA), or give up the sport.

We also have to stop acting like these are easy decisions. They aren’t. Yes, opportunity and capitalizing financially are the drivers but you don’t think these players have built some lasting friendships along the way? These can be tough choices to make, moving on.

If they send a "Goodbye" tweet, they are not likely to return.

I feel like if they were going to Nebraska, we’d have an idea by now.

I’d imagine they’d want to OV someplace first, before making that commitment.

Example - Courtney has OV’d to Kansas
(or at least, had scheduled one - dunno if he went).

Of all of the flyover states, Nebraska is the most flyover.

Endless cornfields in all directions, and the largest elevation changes are from the highway overpasses.

And not for nothing - it’s fairly easy to pick out who the out of state athletes are in Nebraska, because they are pretty much the only black guys and girls on campus.

So - kinda like Georgetown.

Do walk-ons have to enter the portal? That seems pointless.

Neither of those guys are worth “huge” paydays.
I think you’d be surprised. The gap between what we can pay and others are offering is shockingly big. Big enough that these kids will leave a school, team and coaches they love.
