How many future NBAers are on our current roster?

Dakich back at it again with the "no NBA players aside from G".

Is he only talking about this year? In which case, yes, only G because Lydon and Mali are possible Lottery Picks next year. So maybe this argument is semantics?? Otherwise, I don't know what he's talking about.

Also, he really doesn't sound smart. Whoever said that is dead on. He can't keep games straight and keeps saying bizarre things. We were playing Kansas Sunday for his entire segment last night on Sportscenter.

He reminds me of the dumb guy who means well, that catches your ear and keeps talking. I tend to feel slightly bad for those guys so I try to be polite and humor them a bit, while still wanting the end the conversation at the first chance I can do so without feeling like I'm being rude.

He is right: one regular NBA player at most. Most future NBA players are killing it as freshmen/sophomores, which ours are not exactly doing. G is great but he is a 23 year old senior veteran. If was a sure-thing he would be gone by now. If there were 2-3 future NBA players the team would be a lot better. The last time we had multiple legitimate NBA players we were the best team in the country.

We don't get a ton of 1 and dones. Lydon and Richardson can play their way in. G will get a shot.

That's 2-3.

Ricky Rubio, Rajon Rondo, and Ty Lawson say "hi". And even more to the point, how do you know what kind of shooter Howard will be? The form on his jump shot is pretty good, plus he was a combo guard in HS and was projected as such. Dion's shot isn't the only thing holding him back and neither is MCW's shot. They both have other holes in their games. Maybe you'll be right but you have zero way of knowing that at this point.

I give you Rubio and Rondo, but that's 2 guys out of what 30 lead guards? Exceptions not norms. Lawson shot better than all of our guys did, he's 37% career three point shooter, and a very good finisher around rim with multiple seasons shooting above or around 50%. If MCW had a jumper he'd be an all-star, that's his only major hole; and if Dion can shoot he'd be JR Smith lite, instead of worrying about his next contract. Read my original post I never questioned Frank's shooting potential, just stating that it will be a determining factor of whether he'll play in the league or not, which I don't think it's far-fetched.

2-3.

Lydon is a lock, imo.

Mal should stick. He shot poorly, but he has the size, skill and form to get to where he needs to get to.

G will have a puncher's chance.

I don't think anyone else will stick. Would love to be wrong about Frank Howard.

To be honest, I don't know if Gbinije is an NBA guy. I'd say Lydon and Richardson are, although if you want to nitpick and say they wouldn't be if they came out this year, I suppose you could. I'd argue that Roberson has a better chance than Gbinije, because he can make it as a niche rebounding/defense guy.

I hate to say it, but to me, Gbinije has D-league written all over him. Could he be a second round pick and play some NBA games? Yes, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he never does. Hope I'm wrong, though, of course.
the thing about g is he keeps getting better and better, I'm someone in the nba will notice, I don't think we have seen the best of him yet.

As much as I love G and Mal I think that Lydon is really the guy that has a chance to carve out a significant NBA career. His size, shot, Bball IQ make him a commodity in high demand. G and Mal although are very good college players have skill sets and size that many others who will be competing for those spots also have.

the thing about g is he keeps getting better and better, I'm someone in the nba will notice, I don't think we have seen the best of him yet.

The problem is, he turns 24 in June, so his continued improvement is limited... He's also not going to get significantly faster, which limits him. Most NBA teams would take a less productive 21 year old with more upside over a 24-year-old like G. Sean Kilpatrick is a great example. He's scratched and clawed his way to the NBA after a couple great years in the D-League, but he was a 5-year player who isn't the fastest, he's also a little shorter at 6'4, but he just does everything well and knows his role. He deserved a spot in the NBA and got it (we'll see if it lasts), but it was a hugely uphill battle... G faces a similar fight to make it. He has an outside shot, but that's all it is.

I ask this question because Dan Dakich, who for whatever reason has had a bone to pick with SU for the past couple of seasons, said after tonight's game that the only NBAer on the team is possibly Gbinije.

I don't know if Dakich is extra salty tonight because his beloved Hoosiers were curb stomped, but he came off as being very poorly-informed.
dakich loves JB and our program
