How much will Wes Johnson make on his next contract?

As an NBA player, I don't think he's particularly talented. Everyone in the NBA is really talented. He essentially has no handle, I think the role he's played the last few years is what he's best suited for.

Agreed. He's a decent-good defender that is fairly versatile on that end as he can guard 3's, and some 2's and 4's. He's a decent-good 3 point shooter. Some years he's been in the high 30's from 3 which is good, some years he's been in the low 30's. This is the area where I'd like to see him be better and don't understand why he isn't. He's got a great looking shot, and he's not a chucker who takes bad shots. Seems he should be able to shoot 38-40% from 3 consistently.

He's athletic enough to get out in transition and finish. But those are his strengths. He can't handle the ball, not much of a slasher or driver. Not much of a passer. Wouldn't say his feel for the game is all that great either. He's got some definite strengths which is why he's in the league and gets minutes, but I wouldn't say he's this super talented player just waiting to break out but held back by his mentality, like some suggest.

If Wes makes 5-6 million per year that should become the new veterans minimum.

I highly doubt he would be one of the top 7 players on any team.

I get teams have to spend 84 million as their floors but Wes Johnson is unlikely to get more than a couple million at most.

He was 5th in total minutes and 8th in minutes per game for the Clippers this year, which was a good team. He was probably their best wing defender, and after Jordan and Paul...maybe their 3rd best defensive player overall this year. Started for the terrible Lakers(clearly in their top 7-8) the previous 2 years. I think he's top 7-8 on a lot of teams...he's been a starter/rotation player his whole career.

There is no penalty, but you have to spend that money. If you don't reach it through contracts, the difference between what you are playing out and the floor gets divided up by the rest of the players.

I'm not sure why people think Dion had a great playoffs. He had a handful of good games, but averaged 8 points on 41 percent shooting. It really wasn't good at all. That's why OKC traded for Oladipo. You're right he will get paid though. Teams like Philly are going to hand out lots of money to guys like he and Harrison Barnes.

I thought he was defending well and playing a solid floor game for the most part though.

There were lots of times against GS where he ended up switching on Green who tried to back him and down and failed pretty much every time. That's valuable when your 6'4 two guard isn't getting worked by the other teams All NBA PF. I thought he was penetrating and making a lot of nice passes too. He just doesn't get enough opportunity on that team for the assist numbers to be there. But watching the games, he did a nice job in that area.

I agree with the fact that he was a decent defender relative to his teammates on the Clippers and Lakers, but you're talking about a good team that has absolutely zero depth and a flat out terrible team. I don't think Wes is a top 7-8 guy on most teams; he's just done a nice job of finding the ones where he is.

I am afraid you are right. I never understood Wes in the NBA. He is so athletic and he has a really nice stroke, but he lacks the killer instinct and he has never developed a handle. He should be a great player.

Even on this board certain people don't understand the new market. Get used to it. It's like fans are trying to fight it and would rather the owners and league make even more money. 24 billion dollar TV deal coming. I would have guessed Wes would have got $8 mil a year, but good for him getting a three year deal for $18 million.

Dion will get at least 12 a year. Something like 3 years 38 million or 4 years 50 million. Possibly more, wouldn't be surprised at 15 million a year, at all. Could see a 4 year $60 million deal, easily.

Happy for Wes. He has plenty of life left, and is a great guy. Steal for the Clippers in this new market.

Can't wait to see the reactions next year. Conley is worth the money too. Should they let him go and hope another PG just comes along. All these players are getting paid according to their worth with the new cap. The Knicks won't have much of a bench, but a nice starting 5. It's all proportionate, as always. If it was so bad the Knicks would be able to add a decent bench.

Jon Leuer got 4 years $42 mil. He's a solid stretch 4 off the bench who I like a lot. No problem with the deal. Just saying, if you think Dion doesn't get $12-$15 a year, you're crazy. Could even see 4 years $72 mil.

I love Wes, I'm glad he's been able to carve out a solid career and make retirement money while in his 20s, but I don't think anybody can say he's had a great career. I think we can all agree that SU Wes was one of the best players to come through here, just didn't translate.

I was reading a story earlier today, the players last year only got like 48% of the revenue last season, so the owners essentially needed to cut a check for around $360 million to make up the difference. Doesn't really have anything to do with Wes, just saying.

Wes had signed 1 year deals for around $1 million the previous 3 offseasons...2 in a row with the Lakers and then 1 with the Clippers. Nice to see him cash in for quite a bit more money with the added security of a longer deal.
