There is a team that is likely to go to the Final Four. Accordingly they, and Kentucky, may very well dominate the spotlight right through the national championship game. Now, this team also had an issue early in the season with alleged sexual abuse by a coach. That's still in the collective conscience. It turned out that there was less there than met the eye. But, as a smart reporter would do, Robinson assumes that there may be fire where the smoke was. So, he digs around and finds evidence of something. Looks like it's already been self-reported, but no matter, the average guy won't know what that means. He is on the phone with ESPN, CBS, etc. etc. "Do I have something for you! Something that you can run with for the duration of the tournament! This will create incredible fan interest by giving them a common enemy to root against, boost ratings through the roof, and generate record profits for your networks." Money begins to cross palms. Story comes out the day before the BE tournament begins, the week before the field of 64 is announced.
If you think this is coincidence as Yahoo states (I almost died laughing when I read that), then I have two towers in lower Manhattan I will sell to you cheap.
P.S. Just to get ahead of the anti-conspiracy folks out there - it's not about a conspiracy. It's about $$$$$.
