How WIll the NCAA Enforce New Compensation and NIL Rules?

This one, buried at the end, also raised my eyebrows:

Conference membership requirements

The board also discussed conference membership requirements, including possible options that would provide greater temporary flexibility for schools to move between conferences as the Association proceeds with changes related to the proposed settlement. The board did not take any action during the meeting, but the discussion emphasized the need for the division to be adaptable to major changes in college sports and higher education while also maintaining some level of stability within Division I in terms of conference alignment.

I will be curious to see how this is accomplished vis a vis conference GOR's.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the below plays out. If I'm reading this correctly, schools with deep pockets and/or big-spending donors will essentially be able to buy a title. Changes the landscape for sports such as lacrosse, which currently sits as capped at 12.6.

Gait will have to sell more sticks.

The NCAA argued that immediate implementation of roster limits was necessary because schools have already been planning for next year based on their approval.Wilken: "Any disruption that may occur is a problem of Defendants’ and NCAA members schools’ own making."

The plaintiffs and NCAA likely have no choice at this point but to phase in roster limits. Wilken is indicating she won't approve it otherwise. It's not what the NCAA/conferences wanted, but it's a lot better than going to trial, losing and paying way more than $2.8 billion.

Looks like we won't have to get down to 105 this year.

We dare you to cross this line. (Crosses line) Ok, now we dare you to cross this line.

Edit: NCAA:
“That’s the last straw (insert SEC program). To show you we mean business, we’re gonna have to punish the heck out of Fordham basketball. We don’t want to do it, but you’ve left us no choice.”

Eliminate the revenue sharing cap?
Conference enforcement?
Games only within each conference?
Would ND have to join a conference?
What would the future be for the playoffs?
Collective bargaining model?
Is there a future for college football?

Yeah, it's silly. The SEC talking about enforcing it's own members because it doesn't like cheating is like a thief setting up the security system at the bank. "Alrighty yall. Don't yall be tamperin with anyone elses players in our conference! If yall want to mess with players from other conferences though, have at it. We aint playin 'em anymore anyway."

So much of this is so dumb. Just let it all implode, make the players employees, collectively bargain, and establish one TV contract for all schools, so we can get back some semblance resasonableness.

I am with you on the implosion - let nature take its cours and the schools will eventually settle where they are supposed to.

Yup. They're slowly coming around to it. Would have been unthinkable for them to voluntarily bring up a CBA or employee status two to three years ago. Now more are. It's going to be the wild west for a bit more, just have to survive through this period and the ACC post 2030.

Legislate a league with financial rules that carry the weight of law. Make revenue sharing the only way to pay players, and have everything be taxable. Punish those who try to sneak money around the caps with criminal charges of tax evasion (which it would be) and have a mechanism for expulsion from the league.

Short of the threat of criminal charges (and even then...) this will never work. If there isn't a firewall placed between donor-fans and the sport, the sport is going to fail.

Along with the criminal charges and penalties, severe penalties for the violating schools must be enforced. Reduced scholarships, revenue shares, even death penalties must be enforced. Had the NCAA honestly enforced the rules under Emmert, it would likely be able to manage the present situation.

I don't think the haves want rules or enforcement. They just want the have nots out of their lives.

Amen!

I find this complete quagmire of college revenue sports today so very, let's just say, amusing.

I recall some of us whom opined how this can of worms, et al was so obviously going to play out in our views and got a bunch of shade thrown at us, etc., along with such malarkey type comments of supporting slave labor and the like. Ha...and here we are.
