Not what you said. And it has been said here by others. That somehow Jews and and Muslims are like some protected class. They aren't. And I believe that all should be treated equally.
Then we are on the exact same page. I apologize if that wasn't clear, but you can take anything out of context to a certain extent. Equality is the only path

Thing is.. him talking to someone at a WV dive bar is one thing( this would be G rated compared to most conversations)... doing it on air over the radio doesn't get afforded being out of context...stupidity comes with prizes.
What kind of prizes?

I took his comment as “[slur] who are Catholic”. Like, Catholic was just a descriptor the way you might call out the color of the shirts they’re wearing. It seems like others are assuming he takes issue with Catholics. Idk, it could go either way, but the Catholic part of it seemed inconsequential to me.

There is a guy in my hometown who is known for getting sloshed and driving his Model T around. Cops pull him over chitfaced and follow him home with no repercussions.

Back in the day some Cincinnati radio folks would have gone to the airwaves and lambasted WVU fans for being pedophilac hillbillies. The back and forth would have gone one for a week or so, and it would settle down.
Was it a bad thing to say? Absolutely. Does a public employer need to take some action? Yes. Should this be considered in a vacuum, rather than against a lifetime of being in the public eye and how he has treated people during that time? Absolutely not.
My father always told me, “your actions speak louder than your words”. Show me what Huggins has done that exemplifies bigotry toward an religious group, the gay community, minorities, etc. If there is a record of it, he’s got to go. If not, suspension for a period of time, take his salary for those games and contribute to awareness programs, (Bob should match), etc.

How I saw it too. Homophobic comments were all that stuck out.

Unfortunately for Huggins we are not back in the day.

False

Huggins was asked about Xavier University, which a Catholic School. He wanted to insult the Catholics by calling them gay which is what kids did 40 years ago and immature idiots still do today. So, in my opinion, he showed animus towards Catholics and towards gays in his comments. Muslims and Jews are subject to discrimination and hatred on a much greater scale than Christians in the United States. I don't deny that. Had it just been a shot at Catholics, it's probably overlooked. However, I don't see how he can survive using the word *** in a radio interview.

I'm sick of this, there is enough hate for all groups in the United States.

No issues with this take- that said I've seen these kind of things be treated differently depending on age( younger gets the boot) and prestige of ones title (lower gets the boot).

I selfishly want Jesse back for obvious reasons and a firing probably helps us there but if he isn't fired I'm not making a fuss nor am I if he is.

Lastly- as someone who came from little to nothing- entitlement of wealthier individuals still sits with a sour note because you have advocates many without do not.

I long for the day when people could say something offensive and it’s not a news story.
Why? There is far too much hate in this country. And in this world. It is long past time that people are called out for hating people because they are different from them. There is a mass shooting for every day of the year. You don't think offensive statement are where that starts?

Three years ago broadcaster Thom Brennaman was caught on mic using the same anti-gay slur in a converation he must have thought was off-mic.
He lost his job with the Reds and with Fox Sports.

It's very hard to see how Bob Huggins doesn't get similar treament from a STATE school...regardless of how popular he may be or otherwise what a "great man" he may be. That's just the reality of life in 2023 America.

And, it's reasonable to argue that Huggins' case is even worse bceause he knowingly and intentionally used the word during a live radio broadcast and used it about fans of a Catholic school...presumably targeting Catholics.

Thom sounded like an who obviously doesn’t like gay people, Huggies was a moronic joke that every single guy in America has made at some point. Not defending Huggy but I don’t think they’re the same.

It is worse. He said it twice and knew he was live. But he won't lose his job. He said it while working in the "right" place.

I’m sure there is an argument for which one is ‘worse’, but no doubt Huggies has to be more ‘idiotic’ as he knew he was live.
