Why in the world is starling taking 6.3 3's per game in conference

95 mph heaters one inch above the rim at the smallest possible target for a ball to fit through

Moore taking 7.3 of them per 40 is also completely idiotic

What in the world are they doing? Do they even look at the book?

Because the coaching scheme does not mandate that they play for good shots?

I don't pretend to know the actual answer, but it could be our offense has a lot of trouble operating. I've talked about how anemic our high screen and roll is. Maybe it's just a high quantity of bad looks for various reasons (eg, the shots are the symptoms of the disease). Could be he has the ball at the end of the shot clock, Red has told him to take more threes and/or he is pushing himself to do so on his own if he thinks he can't really reliably count on other people to get buckets and since we're behind a lot, he's extending that forcing shots to the three point line.

No matter, he is shooting 29.6% from three this year, so it's not great. He's shooting 43.6% overall on almost 16 FGA/g and his TS% is 51.5%.

To your point, whatever the case, it's not great.

Moore is my fave player from the start of the year... but the time to invest in him and get him some growth is prob long gone. I get he's played atrociously a lot, but at this point it seems he's getting the gentleman's start before the hook.

Tough spot, right? You don't want to play where you are relying on two pointers vs three pointers to the extent we are. But at the same time, the team isn't really good at shooting threes.

Who knows.. But in the first 10 min last night we missed so many simple shots its no wonder we dug a big hole

The lack of decent shooting from an entire team is shocking. HS teams shoot better.

Because those are the shots opposing defenses are willing to give Syracuse - and especially JJ. Teams don't want him in the paint, but they do want him chucking threes and mid-range jumpers. Some days he's going to hit a boat load of them (a la Clemson), but even so no one else on SU is capable of scoring enough to beat a decent team.

We don't run a real offense you are forced to take the shots the defense wants us to take and for us, that is deep outside jumpers. If we ran an offense we could dictate terms to the defense but we don't so other teams control us and how we play the game.

Our Offense is terrible. Every once in a while we run a play and they look great.
Most of the time we have someone dribbling around with 3 or 4 players standing around and then its a chore to get a clean look.
Missing shots just like making shots is contagious, so when we get a clean look...to me those shots look rushed quite a bit.
If they can shut JJ down we are screwed. I dont understand why we dont run more plays where JJ looks to pass to a most likely open shooter or cutter. The screen and roll looks half assed.
Last night he just dribbled around trying to get seperation but its hard when every other defender cheats to help defend JJ. So he throws up a desperate shot as shot clock is expiring.
Its very ugly ball. But Im certainly no expert.
At Sullivan park in Chittenango I see better offense. Some good games there at times.

I'm with ya on Starling but Moore was recruited as a sharpshooter. 3 point shooting was supposed to be his strength. Who knows what's happened but sure seems odd that Bell can't shoot now either.

You need some guys attempting shots from outside to try to command attention out there... it then opens up the floor. If all our guys that are struggling stop shooting them, it makes it harder inside too.

Also part of the problem is the quality of the looks is below average because our creation ability is poor.

Stop shooting 3's, but make it more difficult when you go inside. Or shoot more at a bad % which is not good either. Its not a good solution either way.

We don't have the talent combined with a horrible almost non existing scheme results in the mess we are seeing.

I like JJ the kid a lot. Seems like a hard-worker and a positive influence on a team.

That said, JJ the player has been a lot of empty calories. It’s points on an iffy shooting percentage with almost nothing else. Can’t be the best player on a good team at this level.

I don’t think you know what “humble” means.
