I don't think Long starting next year is a foregone conclusion. I'm fine with it if they think he has more upside.

Long is better at throwing for TD. Hunt runs for more TDs. Whatever

Long's offense 2-10 in red zone. Hunt's was 7 for 15 (ignoring Nova)

Are you related to hunt? He is not the answer. Has one more year of eligibility. Let them battle it out in the spring and summer and let the best man come out.

you asked if i'm related to hunt then you said let them battle it out even though I merely said it's not a foregone conclusion and that i'm fine with long.

uhhhh

Interesting.

My money is on Long - seems more accurate. But I'm fine with everyone battling it out. Hope Alin can make it to campus in Jan. Needs to catch up and make it into the discussion.

if you don't like qb rating, adjusted yards per attempt. they translate TDs and Ints into yards using some regressions or something. A TD = 20 yards, Int = -45

Hunt is at 5.6, Long is at 4.2. That's a big difference (33%). Doesn't include anything on the ground.

Hunt 102nd, Long 124th out of 129.

Who they should play at QB next year depends on what offense they want to run.

Mariota is unbelievable this year, he's at 12, Tebow, Griffin, you name it, none of them hit 12

I don't think either is the answer at this point.

But then who is the answer? Can Long be the answer next year? If so, let him have the playing time right now so that he can be. Everyone wants someone to be the "answer" right now, but right now we have too many questions for one guy to be "the" answer.

Don't you have to factor in offensive line injuries and relative competition? Longs faced better teams with a worse line.

hunt had ND and Louisville, long had clemson and fsu

do injuries make that big a difference?

i think hunt would've had better numbers if mcdonald didn't waste so many of his attempts.

lots of factors, impossible to hold everything constant

but long is at the bottom. lots of schools have injuries.

Hunt will start when he comes back that is obvious. (If he comes back this year)

AJ has not done enough to solidify his spot.

if i relied on the eye test only, i would think long is much better than the numbers say. but i'm skeptical of eye tests

maybe games as bad as clemson are going to be rare.

take out clemson and his adj yards/att is 5.4 still lower than hunt's but close.

if they decide to just ignore that sh!tshow at clemson at night going forward, i won't blame them. but still 5.4 in the other games is bad

Am I crazy to want to see Hunt as a TE? I know he has the mindset of being a QB and I respect that. However I can imagine him lining up in the backfield with a chance to power forward for a few yards, go out for passes, block, and even the occasional trick play because you have to respect the kids arm. I want the QB who has the best ability + understanding of the offense. Whoever that may be

Injuries make a huge difference. What game this year was Hunt sacked 8 times? And AJ isn't getting sacked everytime because he waits too long in the pocket. The ability to have time to properly read and throw is a HUGE factor in performance.

sacks aren't getting counted in adj yards per attempt or passer rating. it's just comparing the two guys when they do throw

i don't know what's better - hunt taking off too soon or long holding on to make a play. long has more passing TD but hunt's scrambles are usually good plays

unfortunately, whoever wins the job will still not be what we need. 6-6 is going to be tough once again next year.

Edouard was the guy...

I have thought the same thing, but i just don't think he is fast enough to be a TE. I don't think he is fast enough for any position at the D1 level that isn't QB to be honest. I could be wrong. Imagine Hunt as a FB? haha We could have Long at QB, Hunt at FB and Ashton at RB. 3 QB set. You never know what will happen with that lineup.

Joe Fields WAS THE GUY too. Thats a dangerous game to play.

How do you know that? The same way the masses thought Hunt was the answer? The same way the masses thought Long was the answer? The fan eyeball test? Even when a kid hasn't taken a single snap.

That was not nice to call you a fan.

I personally dont care what the masses think. I have been around the game long enough, and seen enough to have an opinion on what constitutes a qb who can take us places. Its no secret that I have been anti-Hunt all along (just read my posts dating back since he got here), but if I was wrong about him i would have GLADLY admitted it and watched him help us take the next step forward.

Fact is, he cant throw a football. Intangibles dont matter if u can not throw the pigskin.

AJ Long- i like the kid. he has heart and he can throw. he has no fear. he is only a Frosh. BUT, he is also 4 foot 7, or so it seems. It will be tough for him.

As for Edouard, yeah... he passes the eye test. Just like Ishmael did. There is a reason some kids have a buzz around them, more often than not its warranted. I think he will be the next good one for us. We shall see... I dont care who is the QB if we win (and not in spite of them). Its tough to fork over $$ for season tix year after year just to watch us get smoked or hand games away. A 1-4, soon to be 1-5 home record is a joke. that should NEVER happen.
