Hunt out for the year (4-6weeks) with broken leg

I wonder if Hunt was doing the same.. playing on a stress fracture for more than one game.
hmmm, interesting. Not out of the realm of possibility at least from earlier in the game. I thought he dinged his hip earlier this season but don't recall an ankle or leg tweak or hit.

it's actually not a broken leg which I know from the work I do and personal experience.

Broken is all the way through the bone and you know it by the pain level and confirm it with xray. A "fractured" leg is only partially through the bone and can be played through, believe it or not depending on the extent if you don't tell your trainers/coaches. I know because I played on one for 4 weeks til the end of the season when I finally said something and the xray showed it. Wasn't smart and I sucked big time being slowed so much by it, but its what dumb kids do to keep playing (ahem).

Can't blame the staff as others were elsewhere here today since he did likely hurt it earlier but as mentioned you can play with it and since it's not a weight bearing bone you can actually walk and move pretty good on it (which isn't possible with a break). He'll be fine and it sure sets things up as interesting for next year, more so if one of the 3 backups shows some potential.

Actually, broken or busted is not a medical term. All so-called broken bones fall under the classification of fractures. Before returning to graduate school I taught health and physical education for five years and coached and played football most of my life and have seen many fractures, even had a few. We really don't know how serious it is, but I would guess a hair line fracture. This should clear things up:

He took a big hit in the ND game.

no doubt, been teaching orthopedics for 25 years now as a college prof. and that's the language we use when talking about the details professionally or in the office, no doubt that's spot on. On a sports message board, however, I'll try to keep it plain spoken and general for the av. Joe with it mind to consider as to how an injury occurs and/or if it effects if one can play or not and how it is reported. Here I usually keep it in generalities unless the topic calls for details, elsewhere not so much.

I heard he was weight bearing and saw that he had injured it earlier on in the game which was getting criticism how the staff handled it and that's where the discussion of fracture vs. break came in. You can walk with most hairlines and even other fractures of the fibula since it's not weight bearing, not so much with more severe fractures that the lay person calls a "broken" bone. This discussion was simply to bring to light between the two different scenarios, not to offer a lecture.

But you're right dude, kudos for noticing.

Thank you. My intent wasn't to criticize. My main point was that there is a whole range of fractures, with some much more serious than others. The university never releases definitive information or a diagnosis. The fact that he left the field under his own control was encouraging. How serious the fracture is and what type can only be learned by x-rays and medical examination, which I am sure you are aware of. Everything else is speculation, including my "guess." :)

I know some here wanted to blame GM but if Hunt broke it in the ND game then this falls on him and the medical staff for not looking into it further.

To me the final hit really did not look all that bad against L'ville so I am thinking it was done earlier by the way he was moving around prior. He just might have added to it after the fact.

I've seen nothing from Wilson to make me think we can win another game on our schedule with him at QB. I would rather see the unknown. If it's an epic fail, so be it.
Really ? He got thrown into a game that he did not get any preparation for , with the staff coming unglued and didn't make any bonehead " I'm going to be a big hero" mistakes . And we won the game , why is that nothing?

yeah so much of this stuff is educated guesses til the advance imagery can be done. As much as we like our orthopedic tests they're very limited many time in what utility they have. So many times someones negative for something (like a herniated disc) and then the imaging shows indeed theres one there. Lots of reasons for that...

I remember in the spring game during Nunes tenure he got hurt right in front of me and I saw by how he was hurt with the mechanism of injury that he would be fine with only a knee sprain at worst. In the attempt to try and ease his mind a bit I told him what I do and what I thought that he'd be ok on the field post game and he wanted to hear none of it and didn't even respond.

That ended up being what was wrong with him and I remember saying to myself well I guess Troy Nunes will not end up being one of my favorite SU players. So the point is I can't help but chime in on this stuff and speculating based on educated thoughts and guesses.

I said it in the other thread speculating Hunt was done, but what I actually bet happens is that we see both Long and Wilson on Saturday. Hell, maybe even Kimble. We're going to be down 35 at halftime so there's certainly no harm in giving them all a shot and seeing what happens.
Down 35 at halftime? Jesus this debacle is turning smart people stupid. We're not going to be down 35 at halftime. Holy moly.

You're right, we'll be down 38 or 42.

This game feels like a 56-3 embarrassment to me.

We need a doctor. Calling Doctor Bombay!

This doesn't surprise me, he didn't look as mobile as he normally does against L'ville and even on his passing it almost looked like he was favoring his leg a bit while I watched the game.

5 weeks in and both the QB and OC are being changed - wow.

A lot of posters must not have watched that Wake FSU game. 15 of FSUs 40 points had to come from FGs. It wasn't like they were running over the Wake D.

Wake has a pretty good D. We'll struggle to score at Wake.

of course nobody watched, there was some great football being played this weekend.

heres what we do know...

1. 4 of the top 6 just lost.
2. fla st has been playing with a championship hangover
3. its october, its go time
4. the final 4 committee releases its 1st 'poll' on monday
5. Syracuse is in shambles both physically and mentally

from those 5, we can likely conclude that fla st will look at this wounded, pathetic animal in blue or gray or anything but Orange...and absolutely put a woodshed, arse beating on them like never seen before. think old school nebraska or oklahoma, they may drop 80 on us. foot to the floor for 60 minutes.

They may not throw Long right to the wolves this week, but AJ will get his shot at qb that's for sure.
