Yesterday i saw some very positive things out of Hunt and some areas that need work

Great pocket awareness. As a first year starter he is light years ahead of Ryan.

Leadership. You can tell the guys respect him. It is evident on the field and on the sideline

Game speed. He plays fast on the field and has a very quick first step and first 5 yards which is more important than a great 40 time.

He needs to improve looking off his primary and also not locking in on his primary. He missed many opportunities yesterday especially with Ashton over the middle. There were four or five times that he checked down when he could have hit strike down field. He is not to the point that he feels comfortable throwing to a spot yet. He is still a sight line thrower. I do believe he has good vision so this will come with time.

Deep ball needs more air. He missed on three deep balls that with a little more air would have been completions.

Experiance will cure most of this. I believe that he has the makings of a very good leader for us over the next few years. As Kool kid gets better so will Hunt they both just need time.

You lost me right there.

Austin Wilson was always my favorite.

Will be interesting to see if he progresses much more this season but he has taken some steps. I was frusterated seeing incompletions following the gamecast at work but I rewatched the first half last night and saw a few things.

1) he does have great pocket awareness but almost to a fault at this point. I think he's pulling his eyes off the recievers too quickly vs feeling pressure with his eyes still down field. This can improve though with experience. Had he thrown 50 times a game in high school he'd probably be better now but such js life for a qb prospect out of nyc vs tx, fla, cal, etc.

2) he needs just a bit more touch on his long throws but he's getting better. He barely missed West down the sideline and estime down the middle. Those are probably catches those guys make in practice but are a bit slower in full pads working off jams on the line. I think west couldve layed out and made the catch but tried to catch it in stride instead. Possibly estime as well but if he lead him like he did west he probably has the extra half step to get there.

3) its hard to throw without your feet set and this is the issue I'm seeing a fair amount. He moves the pocket, which is great, but doesn't always reset before throwing. He was set on the downfield completion to west and the ball was perfectly placed.

4) playcalling is getting a bit better but still not great for what he can do well right now. Play action on 3rd and 10? On what planet does that make sense? Need to get him more intermediate looks vs only screens and deep stuff. Occasionally we use the TE and I think perhaps we've figured out that is a young qb's best friend but then they disappear again. This is one area where we can cause matchup issues and I'm hoping we figure it out for the maryland gameplan.

Not sure why. It wasn't some sort of major proclamation. Nassib looked skittish back there his freshman year. Hunt seems more comfortable although once it comes Time to throw the ball it gets a bit sketchy.

Sophomore starting in his fifth game. Lots of good comments above. He will be inconsistent, and a work in progress. Looks like he has the tools and the coaches can work with him on improving in some areas.

It matters not the comparison between Nassib and Hunt. Nassib was no house on fire until his senior year. Sure, he had his moments in his junior year but he was nothing compared to what he was last year. Some of that was rapport with his receivers and some with just experience.

Hunt has the ability. Just re-watch the Tulane game and see the throws - on time and accurate. The difference in the Wagner and Tulane games was that his first reads were open and in the others they were not. He is learning and we just have to wait for the game to slow down for him and then watch out.

Ryan was great on intermediate throws and Hunt is unlikely to be as good. in that range. His long ball is already better than Nassib's, which is not saying much and he is a much better runner.

Hunt will be just fine and then he can turn the reins over to Austin Wilson in a couple of years.

A positive step for Hunt 60 % ish passing 140 yds a few drops including a TD drop. Nothing great but a very positive step against legitimate BCS Defense. Add 0 ints

Ryan didn't start until his soph year (same as Terrel) and led his team to a Pin Stripe Bowl victory. By the end of the season, and particularly in the bowl game, you started to see what Ryan would become. His command of the offense and the ability to get the team in the correct set are attributes he didn't get enough credit for.

Hopefully Terrel can build on yesterday's second half and improve his accuracy going forward.

Absolutely, did not mean to take anything away from Ryan, especially his leadership ability. But he was still a work-in-progress until last year and he never mastered the long ball which I am hoping Hunt can do.

Ryan deserves great credit for making himself a very good QB.

I think that there will be a open QB battle going into spring ball and I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson came out on top but my money is on Kimble.

Ryan never had a good sense of pressure in the pocket. Go back and look at his first few years. He was not just bad he was horrible. Have you forgotten all of the sacks, fumbles? Hunt has a much better pocket sense than Ryan had there is not doubt about this

The one to West was long but I thought at the time that it might have been a completion if West had laid out for it.

I agree...Terrel has better pocket presence than Ryan had at the same point but Ryan was still a far better overall QB. Terrel still has 4 games left (hopefully 5) to improve. Lets see how it plays out.

they are the opposite type of player. ryan stood the pocket and held the ball hoping guys got open and took big hits.. hunt doesn't go thru all the progressions and runs better.

both missed a ton of deep throws.

I agree both of these guys are throwers not passers. I have written about this before. They both lack touch on the long ball. Ryan has a much stronger Arm Hunt has better feet.

yesterday was much better but his qb rating was still only 100. that's way better than the last 3 games but it's not good enough, not by a long shot. 100.32 qb rating is at the 20th percentile of 2012 game data.

if you want to get to the median passing performance, you need to have a qb rating of 130.

I was watching wilson throw at the half.. he looks bigger than i expected and throws really well.

Wilson looked. Very good at the fort Drum scrimmage, strong big kid

Was ready to give up on him at halftime. He regained my confidence in the second half. Played solid.

Yesterday was what would pass for a typical 2010 win. Similarities everywhere.

So maybe just maybe the OC and QB will evolve the same way. (With less speedbumps in the following year like we had in 2011).

Or the "a little more air" makes them interceptions

no he needs to give his guys a chance to make a play.
