I like his size, his poise and his durability.

He will undoubtedly get better as the season progresses.

I will be interested to see if can throw the long ball better than he has in the past.

And I wish he were a just a bit quicker on his feet - and had more straight ahead speed.

He is clearly though the best dual purpose QB we have had since McNabb.

He's got a lot of potential upside. Part of it depends on the play calling (i.e. the number of bubble screens). Maryland will be a good test for his development. He's a little bit awkward as a runner and would do better to head north and south and then slide.

I like the howitzer of an arm he has, but he should probably throw softer when the throw calls for it. Thankfully, our WRs have good hands.

Agreed. Better touch on the long ball and break away speed would be nice but I'll take it.

I'm pretty happy with his development in that he looked to secondary receivers this week and threw some bullet passes into tight windows downfield. The long ball is often the toughest pass to master due to combining distance with touch.

i like hunt. we rely on him and go to him to run to much especially in the red zone. he does not have the speed to do this against the acc and nd. we need to have a better scheme red zone offense , to make up for a weal ol. relying on hunt to run will not work with faster teams

I also thought he looked pretty good, but I didn't remember him throwing any great long balls. I'm not sure if I missed any, but the few I remember were off target.

did anyone else see him get pissed about the timeout before our 1st offensive TD? what was that about?

This would be a great argument if he already hadn't done it to just about everyone outside of FSU and Clemson. ND doesn't have that kind if athlete (see: BCS championship vs Bama).

Hunt is at his best when he is making plays on the ground. I loved the fact that McDonald came right out and the first play he called was a draw. Hunt seems to get into a flow when he's making plays on his feet. I don't know if that gets him into the game or what, but it seems to work. In the Nova game it seemed like he was trying to hard to be a pocket passer. Other then the the drive he got kicked out on I didn't remember him having a called carry.

I'd also like to see more zone read.

No he doesn't have top end speed, that long scramble against CMU showed that, but that's not what makes Hunt an effective runner. It two parts grit and determination with 1 part shiftiness... Goal line and 3 and reasonable are the times for Hunt to run.
Even Voytik and Stoudt are better runners than Terrell, let alone Winston and Murphy. But Terrell makes up for lack of athleticism with moxy when he scrambles...

His 6'3" 225lb frame also help him stay upright even though he is not running by many people. Reminds me of Vince Young with a little less juice when in top gear

i agree in part, nevertheless ---we do not have an effective red zone offense, and just as importantly, he will not be able to effective scramble in non red zone situations consistantly against speed. he is tough determined shifty big and appears to make good decisions when to scramble. he seems to take what the defense gives him, which may change based on other teams speed----he is not fast and needs good ol for protection, that we have yet to have tested. maryland may provide some answers--

I don't know. If speed is what makes you a great runner, then sure those guys are better. (Though only Winston and Murphy actually look faster on tape).

He's really good in space and can make a guy miss - but his best attribute is his eyes. He moves and sees like a basketball player in space. I also think he looks slower because he's so big and has a long stride.

If the o-line can continue to protect him and he can look at multiple receivers his game could take off.

His comfort level appears to be high, and he's going through his progressions now like a veteran. Our passing game will go as far as the WRs can take it, IMO; Hunt and the OL are aspects of the passing game that I'm fairly comfortable with right now.

Regarding his running: he isn't slow, but he isn't a home run threat either. I'd classify him as being more elusive than fast, and there's nothing wrong with that considering he gets the job done. Good instincts, makes guys miss, he's tough to bring down, etc. We saw during that second half run that he doesn't have break away speed--that's about the only complaint I have about his running apptitude, because otherwise he is highly effective. And now, he's starting to move outside of the pocket when the protection breaks down to extend plays [example: that gorgeous roll out / pinpoint pass to Gulley for the TD that got wiped out to to PTG stepping out of bounds]

There was one drive where we actually had a hurry up tempo and hunt looked fantastic. He was just playing and not thinking that much. Can't wait to get parris back because hunt is much better throwing between the hashes

I'd like to see him step up in the pocket and pass. His running is a threat so make the D worry he'll take off and hit an open receiver instead. I've been a big Hunt fan from day 1 and I want to see the receivers open and hit with a pass instead of blocking for him. Not all the time but X amount to keep the defense honest and hesitant.
