To start Drew Allen was striking to me.

He was genuinely upset about it.

That tells me that he was convinced he had won the competition.

If Drew had clearly separated I suspect that Hunt would have been okay with the decision.

Does that make sense?

I love it. Every backup hates their starters guts but most are typically politically correct about it. I want Terrel to wake up each morning, look Drew in the eye and say "Screw you" and I want Drew to say "no, screw you"

Does that make sense?

Honestly, none of this makes any sense to me. As other people have said, its like the staff feel like they owe Drew Allen something when in reality they dont. At this point, there is really no reason to keep playing him. Hunt will be here next year and Allen wont. IMO, Allen needed to be head and shoulders better than Hunt to play this year. After watching him play, there is no way there is that big of a difference. This year should help transition Hunt to be a player next year, even if he doesnt win the job next year he would be ready if something were to happen to the starter.

Now, I am going to get blasted for this and rightfully so, BUT I don't really give a crap what anyone thinks of me and you can all lick my hind end parts right after I eat 3 bowls of Skyline chili and workout for an hour if you don't like it.

So I would never never never actively root for a Syracuse player to get injured.

Or would I? (actually I did root for the rainbow hair wig guy to coldcock DeSean Williams instead of Otto that one time)

(shows self out)

Where'd you see his reaction?

I think it's a little ironic that everyone thinks Hunt should start based on three minutes of playing time. What will people say if Hunt plays and craps the bed? I think the coaching staff knows a hell of a lot more than the fans.

And what happens if he doesn't?

If he doesn't let's hope he has the ability to lead this team to a bowl game !!! I would love to see Hunt under center at the Music City Bowl or Military Bowl.

690, did you remember that Terrel's mom had passed on before posting this?

Because I could definitely see some brawling starting after this exchange. Dead moms are off-limits.

So everyone has lost faith in the coaches after 2 games? Because that's what these threads all say. I bet many of the people talking about Allen like he's a dog thought at one time he was the savior.

Bees, I'm sure you remember that there were a lot of posters calling for Marrone's head at the end of September last year, crying about how he was a total bust and it was time to end the experiment. A lot of people were also calling for Loeb to take over.

Dang right I did. I am a sports fan. It is my God given right to be fickle. But seriously, I really wish rainbow wig guy punched the bad #21

We should start calling it 0-2 syndrome.

At least until we get our easy games up front.

I don't believe for 1 second that people want Hunt to start (including myself) because for 3 minutes of playing time in the NW game. I think it's because we have all seen ridiculously bad QB play in our time as fans...Patterson, Robinson, Fields, Allen so far, etc...

I think most fans are in 1 of 2 camps. The first being that Hunt can't possibly be any worse than 55% completions, 6 interceptions, 5 batted balls and 6 or 8 throws out of bounds. The 2nd being that we should give the young man some run because he has 2 more years to compete and possibly start along with the fact that he is a threat to run. If we are going to throw the season away because of bad QB play it should be to someone who might help the program the next year or 2. We really don't know what he can do our starter is in the bottom 10% of the nation.

I am sure there are more "camps" to go one way or the other.

Remember, we weren't the ones that said it was Neck and Neck battle for the QB spot all pre-season, the coaches were. If it was so close, why start the kid that has performed so badly in actual games for the next one?

If that closeness was all falsehood, then the coaches made their own beds to build up Hunt to something he is not and have brought the current QB controversy on themselves. And the pressure and consequences that go with it. Maybe it was to promote competition, maybe it was to throw Ped State off. Not sure if there is any good reason.

As a fan, I can only go by what I can see.

Is the first line "To start Drew Allen was striking to me" a quote from Hunt, or your commentary? Wasn't sure when I read this.

I think Hunt was convinced that the competition went right down to the wire, as Shafer said it did. Maybe he felt like he had the better camp, but I think in a close call between highly competitive QBs, both will think that. And I'm glad they do, need to have some confidence if you want to be a good D1A QB.

I think what made it harder for Hunt was that he had clearly moved ahead of Loeb into the starting role at the end of spring. So this had to be a letdown. Kid has been through a lot. There was a lot of emotion coming from him when he scored that TD.

Staff needs to keep him focused. There's a lot of football left in his future. Even if Allen improves and keeps the job, Hunt is one injury from the field. And he could be looking at 2 years as the starter (understanding he has to hold off Kimble/Wilson/Long/whoever else).

This. I'm trusting Lester, McDonald, and Shafer. Giving them the benefit of the doubt.

This board is filled with comments basically saying they can do a better job of evaluating talent, schemes, and leadership - despite the fact that they saw Hunt play for 3 minutes in a blowout vs. everyday for 6 months.

Ridiculous.

I understand that and respect that. In all my years of following SU football, that has always been my assertion too. The coaches see these kids every day. They know who can do what, and who helps the team the most.

And that is precisely why I hate feeling the way I do right now about the QB situation. Frankly, it was probably due to the fact that I was opposed bringing Allen in from the beginning. So maybe I'm not objective. But to my untrained eye, Allen has been so off that I believe Hunt has to have a chance to see if he offers something different. It's not right. It not smart. But that's the way I feel about it. Andit isn't likely to change until either Allen elevates his game and his handling of the offense, or until Hunt supplants him and does really well, or really poorly.

I just want to see what he can do. Because right now, I haven't seen anything from Allen.

i dont believe that hunt can throw for 450 yards or whatever v ped st and northwestern.

not for 1 second.

i also dont think hed complete 55% of his passes.

11 in the box...here we come!!!

as it was, v the freshman team.,,..he completed 50%, and royally fd up a play that got him his 6.

His name was Jeff something. He was a Beta. I remember he almost didn't get his diploma because of that. But the way the crowd surfed him right up out of the stadium after he took out Otto was one of the most incredible things I'd ever seen. Truly amazing.

I haven't really figure out what is going on but its something strange I want to air two points and see if someone can steer me towards some sense.

1 we are running a pistol zone read package with a pocket passing qb

2 we are being told allen throws the better deep ball but we don't call deep pass plays

So either hunt should be running our offense if its zone read based or we should be running last years simplified Kgun and Allen should be Qb hmmmm.
