Hurricane Dorian Updates

Most models are projecting it to pass through Florida and maybe GA/Alabama. Maryland should be fine but you never know. Some are projecting it to go through Florida to the gulf which would make it unlikely to hit maryland

Let's just ignore that record amounts of ice in the Arctic & Antarctica have melted and the Amazon deforestation levels in Brazil may have pushed us past the point of no return because some guy is trying to build a house...
you realize that we are recovering from an ice age? And before that there were camels in Alaska. Check out the Beringia Museum in Whitehorse.

Yikes, if it follows the path on that we could easily see wind and rain for Maryland's game, not ideal...

Yeah that is a major concern. So let's hope our running game looks stout just in case ...

In terms of climate change - and carbon emissions. The reality is Americans argue about it frequently, yet the rest of the world, especially Asia is the largest source of the problem. So we can argue it till the cows come home, or don't but until someone overthrows the bad actors, the best path forward is planning and not undoing too much of our own conservation work.

The guy that says nuke the hurricane is in charge of our environmental policy.

And luckily even he can't damage it enough to send it with a lightyear of how bad things are in Asia.

any one buying Florida property with climate change will face more of this evry year...

I hope FEMA has enough money to cover the POTUs paper towel help

Once again finding some way to turn things political.

European Model keeps it parallel but offshore of the entire Florida peninsula. U.S. model says West Palm Beach. Probably won't know until Monday A.M.

The models are beginning to converge.

You are aware that the earth is going through a natural warming process currently? It's been warming since the last ice age which wasn't that long ago when you think of how old the earth actually is.

And Deforestation is necessarily a bad thing in moderation. It creates lots of early successional habitats. Many deer and bird species thrive on this type of habitat. It's why we have prescribed burns and clear cuts. It's creates a very healthy ecosystem to have multiple types of habitats in a location for different species to live in. As a Fish and Wildlife Science graduate it would most definitely increase biodiversity.

11:00 p.m. - slight nudge to the north and increased possibility of remaining a bit offshore as it goes up the Florida coast.

All 3 of the big models (euro, gfs, U.K.) now have this missing Florida. Out to sea or a Carolina scraper is looking more likely at this point.

This is why people procrastinate when there are mandatory evacs.

Yes.. but we are getting into the territory where short term models are key. The big models tend to be mixed accuracy wise with Hurricanes.

I don't want to down play the severity of this storm, but there is so much fear mongering in the weather industry today, people are becoming numb and ignoring the news when there could be a real storm hurdling towards them. The same thing happens with snow storms here in CNY. Somehow 3-5 inches in recent years has been treated like a blizzard, all in the name of ratings and clicks.

What short term models are you referring to? The big 3 are the ones the hurricane center leans on because those models outperform everything else. When there’s a consensus from all 3 that’s hard to ignore. The NHC won’t sound the all clear for Florida for another 24-36 hours to be on the safe side though.

No idea if this means Dorian stays offshore or scrapes the Carolinas.
