That Cuse has played 8 different OL in non-garbage time (Bergeron, Bleich, Ellis, Vet, Ilaoa, Servais, Dakota, Tis) or that the OL has been mostly competent this season, despite the injuries and shuffling of the deck.

I was one of the few who defended Cavanaugh - boy was I wrong.

I don't follow any other teams closely enough to know the answer to this. WTAF. Does every team have its OL get so badly hurt every frigging season? If not, I would love to see the S&C reviewed this offseason, personnel and techniques.

That number is sure to increase this upcoming game, out of necessity.

Sounds like we're going to be down 3 out of those 8. Ugh -- bye week is very much needed for this group.
The lineup the last drive was (left to right) Bergeron Ellis Ilaoa Dakota Servais.

Assuming if injuries keep guys out, this is likely the starting lineup for Saturday. Hopefully, we don't see a 9th guy getting significant minutes!

Agree about that being the likely starting group.

But we're going to need depth, so an additional player or two is going to have to play out of necessity. And heaven forbid if we sustain another injury...

The level of play stepped up once Davis was fully back and Servais moved to center. Didn’t play well at all against Rutgers.

I was confident the ol was going to be a strength, didn’t think Ellis was going to be this good this quick though, thank god for the added interior depth

The OL has been impressive, the kids stepping up behind the 1st team have been impressive

It does unnerve me the amount of guys we’ve lost to injury on the OL this year… Do believe that’s something we need to monitor this off-season and see if it was just fluke or something we are doing in S&C

Looks like we have a good stable for the next year or two on OL

Schmidt's impact (similar to White's before him) has been immediate. 2 great hires. We now need to see more development from the WR room going forward.

I think Gilbert has also done a great job revamping the O to fit the talent - of course DB has a big (bigger) hand in this as well.

Clemson is down several. the Center who started against us was in his first start of the season. look at the NFL many teams down 1-3 Oline guys now.
Speaking of centers I think I heard on the VTech game that ours leads NCAA with most consecutive starts at 56.

So, looking at the roster, we don't have any obvious candidates in reserve to play on the interior. With Bleich, Vet, and Tisdale all out -- we've pulled Ialoa into the first unit. There's nobody else.

So, interesting question. Would they consider using Elmore as a "break glass in case of emergency" OG, considering he started there a significant portion of last year?

Hoping that at least one of Red / Bradford / Cruz can provide depth at OT down the home stretch.

FWIW blocking grades rank vs VT.

Run blocking
Bergeron
Ellis
Servais
Davis
Vett
IIaoa

Pass blocking
Ellis
Vett
Bergeron
Davis
Servais
IIaoa (far below everyone else and graded an )
So if Ilaoa has to play, Schmidt better be doing some extra tutoring after regular sessions.

Interesting that the run blocking grades are in order from left to right on the line…

I think I would rather have Servais at center and then provide the inserted RT support from Elmore on passing downs than move Servais out to RT. Just spitballing but to me Servais being moved from center destabilizes the whole line because now the weaker link is the backup center or am I missing something?

The L side of the OL has been the strength of the run game all season.
The Grindin' Hawaiian has stepped in fairly seamlessly when Bleich has been out.

Here's hoping that -
a - no more owies
b - maybe some of the dinged up guys can heal up over the bye week, and come back for the stretch run.

Its been the right. 85 of 323 attempts, either side of Dakota. The left has 68 and dropping. (Tucker with only 3 attempts LG , for wake , 10 at RG)

Makes you wonder if Ilaoa was the one penalized by PFF on that last play.

I decided to watch, because I'm not sure how much I trust these PFF ratings. And because I have some time in my busy workday.

Ilaoa comes in with 9:29 left in the 4th quarter.

1st play - Shrader sacked, Bergeron gets beat.
2nd play - Ilaoa gets beat by DT, but Shrader side steps, delayed blitzing LB in his face, incomplete.
3rd play - Pass protection was fine. Incomplete to Tucker. But false start on Bergeron.
4th play - Servais gets beat, Shrader gets incomplete pass away.
5th play - Over the middle to CJ, pass protection was fine
6th play - Pass protection was fine, Incomplete deep pass to Sharrod.
7th play - Tucker run for first down.
8th play - Shrader with the weird sideways toss to CJ that gets about 10. Line all went right, Shrader came back left.
9th play - Tucker run blown up, Ilaoa blown up.
10th play - Ilaoa snapped when GS was still calling out signals. Entire line moved on snap.
11th play - Ilaoa had help from Ellis on DT. TD to CJ. Probably didn't grade so great.
12th play - Pass protection was fine, incomplete pass.
13th play - Pass protection was fine, incomplete pass.
14th play - Pass protection was fine, but Shrader took off for a 6 yard run.
15th play - Shrader 4th down run. Pass protection breakdown was Davis.
16th play - Tucker screen pass. Ilaoa and Ellis got out to block. Have to watch Ellis, it's so funny.
17th play - Alford TD. I still say this in on Dakota. If Ilaoa was coached to help on the other tackle, PFF would never know.

rating on pass blocking seems a little harsh to me, especially as a young guy coming in cold in the 4th quarter. 1 bad pass blocking play, 1 kinda bad. 1 bad run blocking play.

That's all it takes. OK is a 50 or 60. Bad is well below. Definitively win the rep, and it goes above 60- slightly. One bad play can be the difference in winning or losing. Graded well below 60. It can be difficult to post above 60(win every rep) Hopefully Josh can earn his first passing grade .

We've lost 2 of our 3 , P5 starter graded olinemen.

The life of an offensive lineman. Do something right 95% of the time and people only remember the other 5%.
