I don't think there has ever been a player...

KJ's handle stinks.

He's phenomenal in transition and on arch and shoot or off one dribble. Watch how he scores.
It doesnt stink. I think he can be a ball stopper at times which hurts the flow of the offense but his handle is very good. He turns the ball over 1.2 times a game and plays 30 minutes.

I wouldn't disagree that his handle is decent for a SF, but KJ has to recognize that today wasn't a day that he should have been looking to put the ball on the floor. Seemed like every time he did something bad happened.

I was disappointed that JB didn't play James a bit in the second half. Seemed like our offense stagnated to coming down and taking jump shots. Might as well put in a guy that has a decent shot at making some of those jump shots.

I agree! James has been on the floor for many of our big runs including the first half of today's game. He spaces the floor and it allows more room for Dion, Triche and Scoop to operate. He forces the opposing team to face guard him, which opens driving lanes for others.

That game was over in the 1st half if not for the drunks in the striped shirts.

Nicely said.

I've despised so much one year, and loved so much then next. But if the game is on the line, I want Dion with the ball in his hands. Good things happen.

FWIW. JB really needs to sit Kris down and explain that he's a catch and shoot player. His handle is TERRIBLE. Less dribble, more off the ball movement and Kris would be a special player.

Not sure what to make of Scoop. Bad scoop for nearly the entire game today...won in spite of him. Sad to see a 5th year senior still not understand game situations. I don't buy JB's explanation in the post game presser. I'd rather have Triche and Dion in the game together...they are a much better complementary pair.
well, it has never been about his talent. it has always been about his character. to me, the jury is still out. let's see if his behavior is still exemplary when the losses start coming (and they will).

Btw did anyone have a horrible flashback to our ncaa tourney loss last year when Dion and Joseph (I think) nearly bungled that sidelines in bounds?

I dont buy the explanation. I honestly felt like he kept him in there just out of charity and the fact that he doesnt want to lose him... Scoop was really bad yesterday.

Scoop clearly struggled yesterday as noted, but another concern I have is his apparent struggles at the foul line this year. I dont have the exacts, but it appears they are down considerably...

I think he's around 50%. And his body language at the line indicates that he doesn't expect them to go in.

Too extreme at both ends. KJ's handle doesn't stink, nor is it "nasty." It is a liability as judged against NBA skill sets. His left hand is particularly weak, even relative to BE talent. He is great at getting to the hoop using his right hand, and this tends to mask his weakness. I don't see many here mention that, but watch for it in games. I think Buzz even talked about the need to limit him to one direction in his presser. You can bet that Pitino and Calhoun will over play his right as well.

"Handle" also encompasses his tendency to get out of control with the ball.

Nice job in keeping things real.

Here are Scoop's FT numbers prior to yesterday.

Frosh - 82.9% (34/41)
Soph - 75% (69/92)
Junior - 66.4% (73/110)
Senior - 51.9% (14/27)

Yeah, this looping business is driving me nuts. Scoop against a good press=fail. Scoop just won't go forward and as indicated above he is picking up his dribble too much. I thought Dion was fine and Triche OK. We will get somebody in the tourney who will play us like this. It's just unfortunate how Scoop continues to struggle in these scenarios.

I think Scoop and BT both kind of suck against the press. MCW is actually the most aggressive as we saw against DePaul. He's the only one that seems willing to attack up the middle of the press and be the aggressor. Scoop and Triche both seem content to lay back, toss the ball around and dare the 10 seconds to run out on them.

That happenss to be the way JB teaches to break certain presses along with a forward popping up to near midcourt on our offensive end.

Eh, then I apologize to Scoop and BT I guess. :)

I have to agree with this. Also, the floor seemed slippery yesterday, time for new kicks for everybody.

It's KJo driving to the basket from the left of the lane to the right when he so often gets out of control and draws a charge. I don't call that having a good handle.

Kris dribbling terrifies me. He's not a HORRIBLE ball handler, but he's not good. As mentioned, he just over dribbles. It's so much wasted effort, and entirely inefficient. You should never make a move unless it actually effectively helps you get past your defender. Going through your legs for no reason is the easiest thing in the world to defend. It's flash for the sake of flash.

That's nuts.

Amen. He's really hurting himself IMO in the eyes of NBA scouts trying to pull off these shenanigans. Wes was a lottery pick because he was a great athlete and he was very effective as a one-two dribble, catch and shoot/pull-up player.

I dont get the 'terrifying' part. I mean as mentioned he rarely turns it over. But aside from that agree with the rest of your post completely. The ball stops when it gets to him.

He might "rarely" turn the ball over but he charges left and right with his head in the sand going down the lane

Which somehow results in him turning the ball over 1.2 times a game. That is 4th on the team despite playing the most minutes. But dont let the facts affect your argument. Ball stopper yes, turnover prone no.

I guess the correct words are he plays out of control at crucial times during the game do you have another number for that?

I don't think I need one. Look, i'm not saying he is the second coming of Jordan, or that his ball handling is flawless, but the #'s don't back up the notion that he plays especially out of control or is prone to turnovers.
