It is extremely clear to me that based upon performance on the court to date and our record that we hand's down deserve the # 1 spot.

Discussion about whether we would beat Kentucky, OSU, or NC is just that. It should be obvious that any Top Five, and probably most Top Ten teams, could beat any of the others on a given day in a given game. So what ?? That has no bearing on who deserves to be #1 NOW.

I have little doubt that we will lose a couple before the season is out, but so will all of the other top teams. It will be interesting to see how long we can maintain #1. Most likely that #1 spot will be shuffled amongst three or four teams in the course of the season. The final # 1 will be the team that from that group that gets the last winning streak.

All of that should not affect today's ratings. There really should be ZERO controversy about who is #1 today.

Any "controversy" over our ranking was eliminated with our clear win over NC State while Ohio st was struggling with a much worse south carolina team. I think several voters who were withholding their number one vote will reverse. The polls will be much closer to unanimous this week than last.

I don't get the controversy in this sense -- who cares? If someone wants to argue that carolina or OSU or Kentucky is better, I'm fine with it. The cuse has been really good in december too many times. As long as we're good in march and get a good seeding, I could not care less.

March and first weekend in April is all that matters, all that matters. The rest is just filler to get through the winter. Who cares what talking heads say

Anyone care to discuss the importance of getting the Louisville monkey off our back?

If that's the criteria, Mizzou, Marquette and Baylor are just as worthy as being #1.
