Did you get concurrence from Rutgers on that?

I have never seen a St John's fan in the Carrier Dome. I have never seen anyone wearing St John's branded clothes anywhere in upstate NY, or anywhere else in the world except at MSG and in it's immediate vicinity.

You know the strange thing...it doesn't even feel right to me to gloat about it. Its like winning a fight against your 8 year old brother. Not really anything of consequence.

If you gave me a million dollars for every St. johns fan I know I would have no money.

The last time St. Johns even had a chance at being New Yorks College team was when their coach wore cardigan sweaters.

I do remember being at a game many moons ago in the Carrier Dome where the then called Redmen had some fans at the dome along with some guy who donned the Indian headress. This really knocked around some big cobwebs remembering this. The few St John's fans sat in the bleachers (blue curtain side) across from the visitors bench with the Redman dancing around. Suddenly an SU student swooped in and stole the headress and ran like a crazy man. It took a while for the fans to realize what was going on but then the place went wild as the poor bareheaded redman took after him only to return empty handed. Anyone else remember that? Did they ever get their feathered headress back?

LOL, I was at that game and saw the whole thing unfold! My father and I used to sit in the section that they never sold tickets to between 101 and 130. They consider those seats as blocked view for some reason but a bunch of people figured it out and we sat there for years. Anyway, I remember that like it was yesterday! I thought it was in 85 the year they went to the Final Four that it happened. I remember a ton of St Johns fans above me in the 300 section and remember seeing out of the corner of my eye a guy running with the head and behind him were 2 St Johns male cheerleaders. The student who took the head ran from the court and then in back of the curtain and went up the stairs in section 120. I remember watching the St Johns first round game and seeing the Redman had a different head, I couldn't believe it! You just brought back a great memory!

Yep, I do

2%? There is no way SJU would have 1% of the Carrier Dome crowd.

I remember that clear as day. I was sitting third level behind that basket when it happened. The mascot guy had taken the head off, as I remember, and put it on the floor in the roped off area behind the basket. That thing must have been hot as hell to wear. Anyway, this other guy, I assume a student, was just walking near the cheerleader area during a timeout. All of a sudden he reaches down and grabs the Indian head and runs like Floyd Little for the area behind the curtain. One of the cheerleaders realized what he did and ran off after him. The thief ran toward the end zone food area, took a hard left, tossed the head over the orange railing, climbed through it, grabbed the head, and bolted for the corner stairs of the end zone seating area. He blasted out the the first level entrance in that corner and was never seen again (well, at least the head wasn't).

The two funniest things I remember about that night are that the Dome security people (they wore the yellow jackets back then) had absolutely no idea what happened until the kid had already climbed into the empty stands and was almost out of sight. It wasn't until they saw the little cheerleader racing after him that they reacted. Man were those cheerleaders PISSED! I remember that one girl standing with a group of the Yellow Coats screaming for vengeance.

Second was the plea by Roger Springfield on the 11:00 news that night for the return of the missing head. The SJU cheerleaders were really pushing to get it back. Of course no one ever turned it back in, as far as I know. SJU had a new one made that looked corny, and eventually the guy stopped wearing the new head altogether. They went to face paint but kept the same red uniform. I think that game could be considered the death blow to the SJU mascot. It was never the same after that. People think the name change to "Storm" did the Indian in. Nope. It's relevance was done in much earlier by a daring SU student.

By far one of my all time favorite Dome moments. Absolutely HILARIOUS!

The cheerleaders were running around like this: couchburn :rolling:
