I hope Geno Thorpe watched our game last night...

He didn't appear ready to play, and barely played, so if he wasn't ready, what was the damn point ??
Boeheim's roster management has been pretty awful these past few years, even with the sanctions.
We have six scholarship players out of 11 that we are permitted to have at this point.

1. Battle
2. Howard
3. Chukwu
4. Brissett
5. Moyer
6. Dolezaj
7. Washington
8. Sidibe
9. Hughes

10. Thorpe (left team in December)
11. Thompson (left team during off season).

Now maybe Boeheim could have scraped the bottom of the barrel for a "D-Lister" to replace Thompson last June, or maybe he decided we were better off saving the scholarship for the next class.

Nobody could have reasonably predicted that Thorpe would bug out.

We have 9 scholarship players out of a possible 11, with 8 currently eligible to play this season.

Chewy didn't pick up any fouls in the 1st half. That's why Sidibe only played a few minutes (after missing several games). He will play more.

We ain't missing him at all.
disagree. strongly.

going into the season, i was much higher on this squad than the board consensus. but that was predicated in part on thorpe giving quality minutes as the third guard and on sidibe being 100%. now, i am lower on the squad than the current consensus

Boeheim doesn't play anyone (least of all in a conference game) unless he is convinced they are healthy enough to contribute by what he has observed in practices and in warmup.

They just said in the past week that it was 50/50 whether or not they would redshirt him. If that was the actual thought process, and he has already sat out a few games, wouldn't you think they would wait until he was healthy before they burned the extra year? He couldn't possibly be playing a 2 hour practice at full speed, or anything close to it to give them justification for putting Sidibe out there, and then have to pull him after 5 minutes. He didn't play well and then suddenly hurt himself out there; he appeared limited as soon as he went on the floor. It makes no sense.

It makes abundant sense if he has said he doesn't want to red shirt and JB honors those wishes from players.

JB honored it because if Sidibe makes one comment that he could've played then he's in deep crap. I doubt it was to honor wishes, he looks out for the program first and foremost.

I'm not sure that is correct. I believe he will not red shirt someone who doesn't want to go that route.

You have five years to play four...Sidibes views are irrelevant

I don't think its as much honoring a request as it is dealing with reality. If Sidibe doesn't plan on spending 5 years at Syracuse, then the redshirt doesn't mean much. Maybe 15 years ago you could bring a kid in who wants to play and tell him you are redshirting him and get away with it. In today's game the kid is likely to leave if you stash him on bench against his wishes. Same reason we didn't force BJ to redshirt.

You do but Sidibe played. He couldn't redshirt. They game the system saying he's injured and he's not, can't imagine that's not trouble.

Is your issue with training staff (athletic trainers/physical therapists), strength staff, team doctor (family medicine/internal medicine) or Orthopedic docs? Or is every facet bad in your opinion?

That might be an indication that our medical staff is sub par.

Do you not recall a couple parents being upset?
Most locals and fans have an issue with any questions regarding our program. I find it interes

Wrong. Almost all players will ask to be put back in a game regardless of being hurt. That is why the medical staff not the player or coach is given the authority to make the decision.

So you're flat out calling the medical staff incompetent -or- you're flat out saying JB is disregarding medical advice. Which is it, ace?

So then why talk about it for a story in the newspaper? It was last week, 50/50 whether we redshirt him.

It is my opinion that SU should hire an outside group to do a complete review of our athletic medical staffs policies, procedures, facilities, injury protocols, and personnel and make recommendations. My opinion is that SU can improve significantly.

So you believe a guy who coaches to win the game at hand would knowingly use an unhealthy player whose play might cost the team a victory?

Which? There are two sets of docs. The team doctor (family care/internal medicine- James Tucker) or Orthopedic docs (different guys for various teams)? I have found it odd that a Family care doctor has become the main doctor for all decisions within the athletic department.

So you’re blaming the med staff for Thorpes sprained ankle and Sids tendinitis? I find that interesting.

Fortunately for us, you don't play for SU. Who are you to judge a kid who's making a decision that will impact his life?
He made his decision to play there. Unless there is death in family or he has a baby coming or something crazy, my view is he shouldn’t have quit. That’s how I feel. I never quit any sport after season started and if I did I would have gotten beat with love by my pops. He didn’t take that well and I didn’t with my kid. U obviously feel different and that’s ok, I wasn’t brought up that way.

ether we redshirt him.

I think the only question was whether Bourama wanted to redshirt.

JB quote: Bourama Sidibie is “feeling better, moving better. He practiced hard today. Hopefully, he’s good to go…He looks good, is moving and can help us. He didn’t want to redshirt. He might play 20 games in a row or struggle. We don’t know.”

I think that reflects the reality of the tendinitis diagnoses. It isn't like a broken bone or a ligament tear where you can say you take this course and it should be healed in xx number of days. I think it is very much trial and error in terms of dealing with it. Typically its more of a rest it for a period and see how you feel. If you feel good and it doesn't come back, then you are past it. If it doesn't feel good then you didn't rest it long enough.

Sidibe's thoughts on redshirting seem to reflect that. He wants to play and no one can really predict how much pain he'll experience or whether it will return if he is currently feeling better.

If there was a log jam at center or we were clearly out of contention for an NCAA bid this season, then you could easily see him being convinced to redshirt. But there are very clearly minutes for the taking and the team needs him, so in that situation I think it would be much harder to convince him that he should give up on this season.
