That receiver did not "lose control of the ball". It may have touched the ground but he ahd complete control of it.

See my post... that makes it all the sweeter!

I thought they were going to reverse it because it looked like the ground secured the ball into his arm. Which would mean the ground helped. So maybe it wasn't explained correctly.

Tough call, but I don't think the Hokies can complain too much about that one. Tell their QB to throw a better ball to the open receiver.

Definitely did not have the ball secured when his elbow went down.

I thought the ball moved when it hit the ground. Too bad because Virginia Tech dominated the game. Bud Foster's defense played great. Michigan's offense on first down was painful to watch. Neither of these teams deserved an at-large BCS bid and it showed. I would have preferred to watch Boise State play South Carolina or Houston.

In all seriousness, I thought Virginia Tech's OL played very well. Did I hear correctly that they started 5th year seniors at all 5 spots? Wow. If so, that's a huge loss going into next season.

If it touches the ground, it's a trap.

That's not my understanding. They were saying through much of the game that as long as you are not using the ground to catch the ball, it can still have incidental contact with the ground. Haven't gone through the rule book, but that's what was said last night.

Screw VT! I love to hate them and last night was oh so sweet!!!

Yes they did. They sold out the stadium. They turned on a lot of TV sets.

The BCS games are exhibitions, Michigan and Virginia Tech did exactly what they were supposed to do.

Would Boise State or Houston have done so?

The stadium had 12K empty seats and the ratings were, ummm, less than stellar.

I kept reading on Twitter about the 12k, and I remember thinking the Dome looked full, must have been upper deck end zones which aren't easy to see on Sugar Bowl TV shots.

3rd lowest attendance ever I think they said. But in a way I can understand. Sugar Bowl is an SEC event, no SEC teams. Instead 2 SEC teams play in the same stadium less than a week later. That plus being on a Tuesday, being January 3rd, not exactly the time that the casual fan just takes in a Sugar Bowl when they are getting back to work and can't wait for the following Monday. Which would mean that probably most of the 64k were fans of one of the teams. I'd kill to travel like that.

BCS has really botched this up. Championship game is so far out, and these bowl games being a few days after New Years have to hurt. Used to be you went somewhere as part of a NYE trip. Now if you get there on NYE the hotel and drinking/eating money will break you by the time the game comes 4 days later. I thought I had also heard that there was going to be a new rule that the final game had to be played by Jan 4, or maybe Jan 5?

I will say, the TV ratings being low surprises me a bit. Meaningless game impact I guess, and clearly a matchup letdown after the 2 national games the day before. Would just think the Michigan name could get them tuning in.

Look at the Orange Bowl last night as a comparison.

Why? We were talking about the Sugar Bowl and your inaccurate claim that it was sold out and had a great TV audience. It was not and did not. That the Orange Bowl was worse doesn't matter.

My quote was that Michigan and Virginia Tech would sell tickets more than other options, and do better to bring money than the other options. Last night was a perfect example with all of those empty seats (And TV for all other bowls has been down.).

So if Michigan State was available, do you think they'd have done better? Boise State? Michigan has one of the largest fanbases in the nation, sold out the university's 20,000 ticket allotment (which VT couldn't do) not counting other tickets sold, and all this on a Tuesday night, and all this, over 1,000 miles from the Great State of Michigan.

Honestly, I don't really care.

I just wanted to make sure the facts were on record. :)

Agree, Sugar Bowl just needed to try to get whatever it could. They weren't going to have an SEC team, and the city gets the 2 heavyweight SEC teams on Monday for a New Orleans dream come true. So for this first game, had to do what they thought was best to put people in the seats. Does anyone think Boise or Kansas State versus Michigan gets more than 64k in that building on that particular night? I don't.

What did you see? I am not a VaTech fan. I'm old and my hearing is not so good but my eyes are OK and that ball never moved an inch during his landing, rolling and stopping. Can't be any more secure than that.
