I think we all need to root for the Heart of Dallas bowl

For an exposure level this is probably worst case scenario. Last year's HoD Bowl was dead last by a pretty good margin in terms of TV ratings. It's tough being on ESPNU, which a lot of people don't have, as well as being on New Year's Day where there will be plenty of better games to watch. Let's also be realistic we're not going to pull any Texas recruits from this game, hell we aren't even interested in the Texas kids that have shown interest in us. So other then actually being placed in a bowl game, being able to play in a historic venue, and a cool city for the few thousands Cuse fans that travel, I don't think this is our best case landing spot.

I still think the Beef Bowl, Little Cesar's, and Advocare Bowl would be a better landing spot for us.

I'm not saying i'm not happy because I am thrilled we are going bowling. I just don't think we should make this out to be a best case scenario for us.

ND players wanted a warm weather game. Guess where they are going?

I bet they would want to eat ice cream for dinner and stay up late on school nights too.

You don't let kids make the decisions. That's how you end up losing 42-41 to Ohio state.

Damnit man, stop swaying people with logic! The most important part of landing in the HoD bowl is that I can go to that game!

THAT'S what's best for the program!

I hadn't even looked to see what channel it was on. I guess being on espnu negates any benefit of new years day (except I don't have to work).

We don't recruit Texas - I don't want Texas. Dallas is cool but the bowl doesn't get much in TV ratings as ano said either - doesn't help exposure. That being said, exposure isn't really that great overall in the lower tier bowls. If we're going to start really recruiting Texas (and maybe we are, who knows) then Dallas makes a lot more sense.

I'd even say for our recruiting footprint, Motor City would be better because the Midwest kids could actually go see the game, kind of like how our NYC area recruits got to check out the Pinstripe. Military or Beef would be good because both are in our recruiting footprint.

Seems like things are aligning well so far, NIU lost, SMU lost and are not bowl eligible, now need a Rutgers loss tonight to top it off!

If you have ESPN, isnt it a a given that you also have ESPNU??

Not sure it's included in all the packages. Good question.

I don't think it's available with the basic cable package that TW offers (at least in Syracuse).

It's in the 300's.

EXACTLY!!!! NY City exposure for ND's brand and for recruiting is better than going south to some other bowl game. Since both bowls are meaningless do whats better for the ND Football Program going forward!! Who cares what the kids want! They are getting a free education and a platform to get into the NFL, that's enough of a reward!! You don't cater to a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds on where they want to play their bowl game. Who the hell cares what they want. It's about building the program and doing whats best for the program if an option is presented. If SU has any say they will do whats best for the program not what the players want.

If SU ends up in Dallas we have a contingent of 9 that will be going. That number is likely to grow. Devine is one of them.
Three more from my family alone with me in Plano, my brother in Richardson & niece in Uptown Dallas.

My buddy moved to dallas recently. Went out one night. Brought a chick home. Banged. Next morning, 40 bucks, his hairbrush, and roommate's MacBook stolen. Roommate reports it. Cops knew exactly who she was. She's a hooker.

So there's that.

Im under the impression that if you have ESPN then you have an upgraded non basic cable package. And in that package you also get ESPNU. I dont know i just think ESPNU is not as uncommon as you make it seem.

It's not a given, although I do have it. I'm not sure why your asking me since I said I wouldn't have any conflicts with watching whatever the bowl game is called in Dallas. What I also have is a job that I'll be at until 5 pm on the 23rd. What I don't have is DVR, so I won't be able to watch the Beef bowl.

For what it's worth, the talk about ESPNU started when someone said the Dallas bowl had the worst ratings of any bowl game last year, so the fact that it's on New Year's Day doesn't guarantee better exposure.

If you have access to ESPN3 then you should be able to watch it later. Some bowl games are also replayed on ESPN2/U/News.

Per wikipedia...

As of August 2013, approximately 97,736,000 American households (85.58% of cable, satellite & telco customers) receive ESPN

As of August 2013, ESPNU is available to approximately 74,445,000 pay television households (65.19% of households with television) in the United States.

In other words, 76% of all households with cable/sat/telco video service have access to ESPNU.
That percentage will be higher for those households which consider themselves to be "sports fans", as at least some* of them will have opted to pay extra to receive said channels.

* Marsh, Kaiser and I fall into that category. I suspect there are others here and on the various sports boards around the country.

And that also doesn't include the people who will be watching on WatchESPN...of course that doesn't do anything for ratings, but it'll still be a bigger audience than we think.

The only people authorized to watch ESPNU via WatchESPN have already been accounted for in the previous figures.

He needs to change where he's hanging.

Not necessarily. Everyone on a college campus or military base, for instance, gets WatchESPN no matter what TV provider they have, which means people without ESPNU can still watch online if they are on a campus or base.

So, he really didn't pick her up. He paid her for her services and she took some souvenirs.

Curious, what did you gain by pointing out the woman's race in the above anecdote?

True... for those that live on a base.

Is a college student living in a dorm a household? I bet their true household has cable/sat/telco service. I also bet that they won't be in their dorm on New Year Day, nor that they'll be awake for kickoff. ;)
