I've written this before:
I used to be geared up for days before a game. I'd sit there in my old SU t-shirt, with an orange beverage, and i'd actually cross my arms and legs in the direction of our basket. Yeah. Dumb. But committed. Prolly shoulda been committed. But, that was the intensity. Didn't miss a second of game play. No interruptions. I was that way since 1985 and only missed two games of broadcasts since then.

Until now. As of last year, i don't necessarily bother to watch live. I'm on Pacific time and those 9am games on a saturday morning—fuggedaboudit. And i guess getting used to watching a replay has conditioned me to do that with other games, as well. Even live, most of the time, if i'm not posting in the game thread, i'm doing something else with one eye occasionally on the game...

I didn't bother to watch the last third of the Carolina game. Never turned a game off early before. I guess that started something, as i only watched two thirds of Virginia.

Bad, bad downward trend. I don't know if that's something i'll ever get back completely. And that's sad.

Something i loved is now just something i feel obligated to like. I always assumed that's what it was like to be married or have children.

One thing I wonder is how many future fans we have lost. Those of us in our 40s maybe down to early 20s have a history to look back upon and enjoy and try and keep it going. That said the fanaticism weakens as each year goes by with failure and negativity even those of us that are alums. Through 2014 we were still growing and building as a fanbase and now the contraction is real.

How long until it’s mostly a casual fanbase that gets interested here and there? There is a lot of ground to cover and rekindle that passion for the program while overcoming the yearly free agency to boot.

Kiyan was hopefully going to be a bridge for the younger generation. Still to be determined.

Hell, I go back to Manley. Back in the day when I bought a new car it had to be orange. Those days are gone. And, I blame the ACC.

The New York crew remembers this after work. We would meet up at bars and we would not miss a game. We owned the garden.

I used to always watch a game live, or at worst DVR it and not let any one talk to me before I got to watch it "live".

Now, I just can't. Too painful to watch. I tend to record the games, check the score, and then watch if it seems like we put an effort it. Can't believe it's down to this. Time for a significant change.

Glad to know I'm not the only one doing this now. It's been much better for my mental health, stress levels, and blood pressure (especially games when they blow a double digit lead and the game becomes a nail biter at the end - much easier to handle knowing they pulled it out).

Yeah, that is sad. I have a similar situation. My son sometimes comes in my office while I'm watching the game and gets excited for me anytime we're less than 10 down. I can't blame him. All he can remember about Syracuse basketball is losing.
