with the Breeders Cup on Saturday, actually much better viewing than Syracuse football. I find it amusing here that after 9 games, I think Shafer has many more questions to answer as well as Marrone on defense and special teams than Hack does on offense... They were both attrocious on Saturday. That said, the specials teams looked like a kicker who is toast mentally and bonehead plays in the blocking scheme

That said, I agree with OrangePa, we just need to continue to recruit and build facilities, spend money. Reddish and West make catches we most likely win the game, plain and simple. I am not saying that Marrone is perfect or the coaches should not answer for some of the crap that we witnessed Saturday but I think we have a good staff in place, you want more wins, pony up, get facilities built, allow coaches to recruit better players.

People want to get out of whack about a 4th down call, game wasn't lost there by any means.

To me Shafer looks like the coordinator who is still wet behind the ears.. Hackett getting better by the week. Amazing and here I read that Marrone had no idea what he was doing hiring Hackett!!! In addition, I can't remember who the qb coach is? Nassib seems to have squeezed every bit of talent out of his god give ability as well, again hack mus not know what he is doing!!!!!

FWIW, Marrone is 100% not going anywhere for at least 3-4 years, he will be given an extension here shortly

I think the jury is still out on both of them. Hackett certainly seems to have developed a capable offense and, by and large, has called good games. But, one season does not a career make. And that is what we are seeing with Shafer. He had one good year largely because of some NFL-calibre players. Since that time, not so much. His game preparation sometimes is just head-scratching, see USF, as if he prepared for the wrong team. And, as the UCONN game last year and the Cincy game this year showed, in-game adjustments are clearly an adventure for him.

Kobena (fumble), Wales (TD Drop), Eskridge (Ole), West (TD Drop), Reddish (INT TD Drop), PTG (missed block leading to fumble and Cincy TD). Take those 6 out, and it's a much different game. All were just backbreaking, crucial mistakes, bigger than the ref issue.

Still, that 4th down call is huge. Ok, it didn't lose us the game. But it sure as hell didn't help us win it. Top 25 offenses often win games when they are down 11 early in the 4th quarter. Because they try to score touchdowns. With their offense.

Schafer has also been dealing with 2 woefully undersized starting LB's. But that's on the staff to recruit.

THIS^^^^^^^^ Davis is going to be a good one but had no business starting last year

Nassib isn't exactly Rudy. He has NFL caliber arm strength and throwing ability. Is that all Hackett?

Take those HUGE plays out and it's a different game...I'd hope so. We aren't talking about one mistake here; these are ALOT. Hard to see us eliminating all of them next week, against a better team.

Actually, I meant to say if we took all of them out, we probably win that game by a few TDs. If you take half of them out, we likely still win the game.

But I know that one play changes the course of every play after it.

If you take all of them out, it's a 45-14 win (and that assumes that we don't score on the opening drive or the Nassib fumble drive). Elimating any two of the mistakes would have been good enough for the win.

We never stopped Cincy on defense.

What, do we suddenly have amnesia?

Our defense was awful.

Take away Cincy mistakes and were crushed.

Two of the mistakes were by the defense. One was the play before Cincy went for it 4th and 2 for a TD. Something tells me they don't go for it on 4th and 14, but what do I know.

2 Cincy TDs were on short fields from our turnovers.

That's 21 of their points.

Read Rahme's articles again from yesterday. He knows what he's talking about.

Our defense was awful.

They pounded us pretty good on the ground. At the same time, 22 FBS teams average more yards than they gained, so it wasn't unprecedented.

The offense was shutout in the 4th quarter. After the last UC touchdown that occurred not even a minute into the 4th, the defense held Cinci to two punts. It was the offense that couldn't get it done. That and some questionable head-coaching decisions are what ultimately lost the game.

I don't recall anyone saying that Reddish and West were examples of how we aren't recruting good enough players when we got them. I recall them being described as the kind of recruits we need to go out and get.
