I've heard we are walking, taking the bus is too much money...I wonder if we have the money to pay a top coach. Aren’t we taking the bus to away games

This is exactly what we should have went for when we replaced JB. Whoever had a hand in hiring Red as a head coach shouldn’t have a vote this time around.I want someone with no tie to JB. I want the hire to be known for having physical teams that play hard. I want some sense of strategy and game mgmt. Can Wildhack deliver? That I'm not so sold on.
It’s not a matter of having the money. It’s a matter of leadership being willing to spend it on a coach. Which they aren’t.I wonder if we have the money to pay a top coach. Aren’t we taking the bus to away games
again... as you said, the players, who analytics said were high IQ players, are not what they were perceived to be.
Yup. Me too. I sat in the bleachers behind one of the baskets. I remember when Niagara with Calvin Murphy came to Manley to play a freshman game before the varsity game. Was that vs. Dave Bing? Capacity crowd. It was wild. Ah, the good old days.I left it on but cut the sound because I could see all the mistakes, the intercepted passes, missed shots, turnovers - they had 25 PTS off our turnovers.
I've been watching these guys play, highly anticipating the game, since Dave and Jim started playing in Manley - I would not miss a game from then till now - today I really didn't give a damn. There is no progress to the team. 87 - 60 a 27 point margin. We surely needed JJ today and until he can play, I feel we aren't going to win. Maybe even with him we aren't.
Amen brotherI didn’t even bother to turn it on.
Only watched a few mins vs GTown.
Cuse hoops used to be appointment viewing for me.
It’s sad.
Nate Oates was there for the taking. It was the easiest move that we could have ever made. Absolute no brainer and JW whiffed. It’s already set the program back 5 years and there is no reason to think it will be back. Absolute unforgivable error.Fran brown also wasn’t going to be the coach either. JW listened thankfully and it’s worked out. I think people are delusional on who they think this program can get. Is it a brand sure. But this thought that they could get someone from a great program is insanity. The opportunity to hire Nate Oats was there and they didn’t do it. And that’s the whiff here. Adrian is not working right now and that’s obvious. But there is a zero percent chance they are getting someone “well known”
Maybe we'll know something's up when Melo shows up to watch one of games.I am in the Hodgson fan club. What do I like?
1. His story. He was born to a teenage mother. Was in the foster system for a little while until adopted. Went to Fredonia and worked his butt off to get where he is. My take home. He’s faced some adversity in life and has a strong work ethic. Head coach at 37 is impressive.
2. His team plays hard. 10-3 after today. Win over Memphis this year. They were down by 25 at half time versus UAB a few days ago and his team came back and won. Can’t comment on specifics offense/defense, but it looks like his team is well coached in both ends from what I’ve watched, especially offense. I recognized some dribble drive, 1-4 sets. High screen and rolls. Attacked the zone well versus Memphis.
3. Got studs for Oats at Alabama. Getting some decent 4* recruits by some services to go to Arkansas State. Also appears to be using the portal well as a bunch of guys are transfers.
4. Seems like a realistic get who would attack the opportunity like Fran has on the football side. His favorite school was Syracuse growing up so I’m sure he knows the history.
Overall, just getting the same vibe that Fran gave off when I read more about him.
Should've had pitino take over for a few years...I’ve been in the Red needs 3 years camp, but I just deserted. We’re going no place but downhill fast. The only question in my mind is what can we do to stop the slide before it becomes an avalanche.
I’ve seen a lot of speculation about the Colgate coach, or the Arkansas St cosch, but in my mind that’s the wrong way to go. We need a new coach to do essentially four things: Retain the current talent, particularly Freeman and Moore. Continue our hs recruiting at the current level. Use the portal to bring in proven D1 level talent. And, in order to do the above things, excite and activate the fan base and more particularly the nil donor class.
To do that, I feel we need a coach with a proven track record and a rep. Someone who will excite the big money guys. I hate Pitino and Pearl with a burning passion, but that’s the kind of guy we need. Hire another mid-major guy and I fear we’ll be wandering in the desert like the Israelites for severa more years, and I’m too old for that.
I know the question is how could we afford it. Wish I had an easy answer. Maybe consult with Melo and Lala. Maybe go hat in hand to Weisman. Maybe go to every alum worth million or more and beg. But if we want to be relevant in this decade, we need to do something dramatic.
End of rant.
Nope but someone from the university can.Can you post these “analytics” that suggested that?
you don't think they had it before him? Analytics has been used at multiple levels in multiple sports for years now. Or do you think they collect data just to fill a spreadsheet?Red brought this collection of misfits in, he is 100% to blame.
Yes, the talent is poor but he’s also doing nothing to elevate them and it’s getting worse. There’s no movement, no plan and no ability to create open looks offensively. In 2 years, the defense is just non existent.
We have 2 talented freshmen playing roughly half the game and sitting for long stretches while guys that have limited talented and no future in the program are getting 35+ a night.
What analytics issue are you talking about? The former intern hired less than 2 months ago?
Just fyi….you sound like Kramer discussing write offs right now.Nope but someone from the university can.
We would be playing for a national championship this year if anyone bothered to call the guy down the road who had Buffalo of all places in the top 25.Nate Oates was there for the taking. Had to google what you are talking about...that was pretty funny! But Kramer also wasn't wrong, of there is a way to write off something as an expense you better bet they will do it! I am sure we would all be shocked if we had access to many companies books, but we don't. Just as I don't have access to the analytics the athletic department uses when trying to sort through the thousands of eligible kids that play various sports through out the United States...and beyond. But I get it, it is much easier to just arbitrarily blame someone when something goes wrong than to take a good look at the process and see what is broke and how to fix it. After all that requires work and actual thought processing.Just fyi….you sound like Kramer discussing write offs right now.

Probably one of the first true things you have said in a while. I don't know the process of how Syracuse Athletics does every single thing. But there is a process. There has to be. They just don't listen to ESPN and say oh this guy has 4 stars lets go get him. You know what else is true? You don't know the process either! Unless you work for the athletic department that is. And if you would, you would only know one small part of it. It is truly sad that critical thinking has lost it's way. But I get it, its the new MAGA process. I may not understand it, but it is out there alive and well. Don't like the instant results? Fire them!YOU DONT KNOW THE PROCESS!!
Good lord

I was there - the spotter for the official scorer. The freshman games filled Manley before the varsity. Dave and Jim were there before 10 - 11,000. Bing would sky through the air from the foul line and effortlessly put the ball in the basket. Don't remember Ernie but he was another best in the nation recruit - he chose SU instead of lots of other schools. Oranges all over the place - yes those were good days.Yup. Me too.
