new to the board, but have always followed Syracuse football. It seems that looking over the personnel currently on the roster, our defense may be better in a 3-4 scheme. It sounds like Chandler is probably leaving, and he should if he is projected to go in rounds 3-5. What we do have are linebackers who have gained some experience and some smaller DE like Sharpe and Simmons who may project better as pass rushing outside linebackers. I would like to see Cam Lynch as an inside linebacker also. Goggins and Bromley may be better suited to playing end in a 3-4. Crume and Boatman could play nose. This is not taking into account incoming freshman. Any other thoughts?

That likely is the best course for next year. Our DEs scare me.

Unfortunately, I think Shafer is pretty tied to his scheme. Don't seem him changing.

i think it plays to the strengths of the team for next year- but he shouldn't have the other linebacker be the "okie". I actually like spruill better on the edge, davis/sharpe/simmons opposite him, cam in the middle, vaughn or someone who beats him out at the other middle

I agree 3-4 works best. Our best defensive position since Marrone got here has been LB. Might as well have as many on the field as possible.

I love the 3-4 and wish we would employ it as well! Keeps a nice healthy stable of LB's and you can get more creative in blitz packages.

Heck, if it works for the Steelers than it works for me.

So we passed on a lot of top prospects because the inn was filled early, OK!

Yeah, but in the end it doesn't really matter. That one RB was always waiting for a better offer. That Neal kid supposedly got offers pulled from many teams...

Thing is, the only kid who's committed at this point is LaKeith Walls. Neal, Lynch, Perkins etc are still open and taking visits.

Pharoah Brown decommitted from Michigan and is now headed to Oregon.

Abner Logan never really considered us.

But this is why you recruit until signing day. Stuff happens. We still have to see if anybody hasn't made the fall grades either.

I think we're still involved with a handful of Florida kids but it just hasn't been reported on much.
