Do you think when JB ever retires that whoever takes over as head coach will continue to play 2-3 zone as the only defense? But it seems at this rate Coach Hop may actually retire before JB. But assuming Coach Hop takes over at some point. Do you think he will play 2-3 zone 100% or will he switch back to the old days of switching to man-to-man for a few possessions?

When our team is losing by a double digit lead it seems playing 2-3 zone helps the other team take time off the clock. Man-to-man is like doing a press but on your opponents side of the court.

i think the 2-3 dies with JB.

best chance is hop, for a coach from one of the lesser schools, like vcu or nova, who could get promoted to Cuse, i seriously doubt they will change the way they coach.

If the 2-3 zone doesn't stay at Syracuse...it will be like a legend dying. We need to keep the 2-3.

Hop is the next coach and he will play 2-3, press and man. But I bet the 2-3 gets a good run

Has anyone noticed how many schools are playing Zone this post season. I've been watching a lot of "championship week" games in several different conferences... and it seems like at least one team plays zone at least part of the part .. in each game.

That is because everyone else has figured out what jb already knew. No one can shoot.

Anybody else catch good ole Jay Williams last night?

"You can't beat Notre Dame playing zone".

LOL.

Yep. Even Roy Williams played some zone in the 2nd half against Louisville.

Also it will be a process. The players who were brought in to play will have been brought in for the zone. And the current players will be so versed in the zone defense that I think you stay with it and slowly mix in the other elements. Each year we get away from the JB years, the look will change a little more.
But I think the zone will be around in part for a long, long time. But what Bees said when he asked Hop, it will evolve into a mixture.
We were a mixture for many years under JB.

"Part of"

it will never die

That reminds me of the AIC song "Rooster". Heck, Boeheim reminds me a little bit of the narrator of the song! Maybe some of us see a bit of ourselves in him as well?
