If not Babers... Wells?

I don't know, but to say he doesn't have one would be bogus. I doubt that an offensive identity is tops on the checklist. The only thing I can put together from the names I've heard throughout, is they're younger, some experienced, some not, that have run pretty tight programs and had success doing it. Out of the names I heard, only one definitively was the type of offense I think we'd be enamored with. It's why I have this feeling that the hire will be a surprise that doesn't go over well with the fan base.

Again, these are all just assumptions by me, I don't know as much as the next guy. I can only go by what I've heard from the people I've heard it from. I haven't even heard that Babers is a definitive candidate, or Montgomery for that matter. I certainly hope they are, they're my top choices.

Babers is not younger. Amato is 90 years old.

Frost hasn't run a program. The two Idaho guys are jokers who should never even be leaked as candidates for a job like Syracuse.

Not about to jump ship and start screaming, but with the list of people leaked it certainly seems there's not a definitive vision.

I've heard nothing about Babers or Amato.

Frost - I wrote some have exp some dont, I know that I was told in Mid-October that he was #1, and that came to fruition.

I know that who I was told is #2 is still out there.

So is rehiring GERG the equivalent to squaring around to bunt, getting hit in the crotch by the ball, falling over pooping your pants, and then getting swallowed by a sink hole?

Sounds good to me.

I can tell you first hand (I live in Utah and have some connections to Utah State) that Wells is a good coach. They've had as many QB injuries as we've had, but have won enough for bowl eligibility despite that.

That said... I'm not sure he's the high flying offensive coach I have been hoping for. I'd feel pretty meh about the hire. He'd likely do well, I just want to do well with some style, and look, I'm not backing down from that. After all the drudgery, let's watch a fun team.

It's ridiculous from an Offensive/Defensive perspective. Is it ridiculous from an age/experience and personality perspective?

We don't know that. What kind of interview was it with Ash? Was he a target that said I want him as a HC? Why did Ash withdraw his name so soon? Too many variables we don't know.

Or maybe he is just looking for bright, innovative coaches with the experience or capacity to be great SU HCs (like Frost and Ash), regardless of their specialty...

This hangup on having an offensive guy as a HC is out of hand IMO.

i don't want an AD with a vision for football based on age and personality

That's fine, but, you don't make that decision. And I don't know that that's the criteria either? That's the point, nobody knows anything legitimately. Those are the only couple dots I can connect if Ash was in that process.

Let's just all pray that it's Babers, I think at this point it's the best bet to get us where we want to be.

I want to clarify. The only 100% lock info that was leaked was Frost.

Babers would be the first choice by far but Wells from Utah State would not be a bad back up.

Wells was in the rumored 1st tier in early November.

Hmm. Ill try. You have an opening. Someone submits a resume and as a hiring agent you say. Well the resume is stout. Good experience fits some of your check boxes. So you have a conversation. After the conversation the "candidate" waits for an offer/or is given some indication that they are not the "top choice". So they say ok. I will remove my name.

Anyone that has hired someone has had this happen. Id bet 90% the above happened in some capacity.

Well sure, but, that's just the hiring process. Doesn't quantify anything that they're looking for. The removal of the name from consideration always reads to me like you were told that you were not near the top so save face and look elsewhere.

We are trying to improve the Syracuse football team, not improve Syracuse dance team.

why is it bogus to wonder if he has a vision if no one can tell what it is?

i think this guy is in over his head and I hope he gets lucky

For someone that likes cold hard facts and stats I wonder how you can derive he is over his head at this point. Especially with seemingly no real information out there. I would have figured you of all people would have waited for a hire before stating you think he is in over his head
