If TCU can do it SU can also

I like this about the portal. It gives teams like SU the chance to pick up highly rated kids that are not satisfied with playing time at the Big Boy schools. For us to improve our record and get to an ACC championship, we will need to keep our starters on our roster and not lose them to the BCS contenders. I wish I knew the answer on how to do that and hope HCDB does.

According to the ringer they didn't bring in a ton of transfers. Dykes bought a center from SMU. Not sure how their roster changed.

Also, TCU plays a 3-3-5 defense. It can be done.

Coaches need to have a well defined system that will mitigate the talent gap in the trenches. We are there on defense, but our offense is still a mess in my opinion. A large part of that is our inability to identify and recruit high level qbs… programs like Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU always seem to have good QBs year after year. We have had one good one since McNabb left in Nassib… Dungey was a great leader and player, but not a great passer. Shrader isn’t as good as Dungey and his play determines our ceiling.

This. Times a million.

Until it changes Syracuse needs to reserve as many scholarships as we realistically can to work over the portal.

Game has changed. We will never dominate HS recruiting rankings. But we can add 5-10 impactful transfers every year.
The staff, most importantly DB, believes this as well. My understanding is that there will be more staff additions to support the new reality of the portal.

It seems crystal clear that this is the path SU must take to be competitive.

This is great to hear. Really seems like our best approach.

The playoff expansion will be incredibly helpful for us, and schools like us.

Spend money. Doesn’t get any easier than that.

With 3 years starting experience
if here were at Syracuse imagine the abuse Dino would be taking because he wasn’t day 1 starter! My god that would be crazy.

Dugan is literally a Dungey /Schrader clone. He will not be a starter in the NFL. The difference is TCU’s WR room and their line isn’t a mess. Having the #1 WR on the draft board goes a long way to make a great player and leader look like a great QB.

SU’s QB woes have less to do with the QBs and more to do with everything else around them including the scheme.

What surprised me the most against Michigan, is how the 3-3-5 was holding up against the run with Michigan's huge OL. Likewise, TCU's OL was impressive.

that does give me hope that SU can do the same!
UM OL definitely was confused by the attacking nature and the different looks. Gillespie won the chess match, especially in the read option game. McCarthy made a ton of bad reads because of the disguise.

The chancellor at TCU was telling a story.
Many years ago now, the previous coach Garry Patterson approached him with a request
"What do you need coach?"
"We really need an indoor practice facility, but it will cost about $7 million (then)"
So a little while later the chancellor was speaking at an alumni luncheon event, and he spoke about the football programs need for an indoor practice facility.
"Now it will take some time" he said "because $7 million in extra donations is a lot, but I know that you will do all you can to help"
After lunch, two alumni approached him and said "Chancellor we would like to help with the practice facility"
"Oh that is great" the Chancellor said "how much do you think you can contribute"
The two alumni looked at each other and finally said "Oh! Well, all of it."
Sammy Baugh practice facility done.

Just a TCU story, football in Texas.

Kind of like when Ensley, and some others, funded the indoor facility at Syracuse.
