If you enjoy laughing

I’ve been told we’re prepared to counter any offer if we have a magical season. I don’t know what defines magical because my 15 year old daughter is my source.
Ugh what a letdown - had me excited for a sec

I think Fran is a man that desperately wants to use football to develop young men from underprivileged areas in the Northeast and provide them with opportunities to succeed in life, and he views Syracuse as the ideal place to do that. While money may be a factor, it really doesn’t seem like the primary factor for FB.

I’ll take him at his word until he proves me wrong…the man said he’s got all the money he needs. He wants to win football games and championships more than chasing money into bad situations.

But holy geezus he’s won 2 football games and here we go again with this.
If money was the only motivator then Kyle McCord wouldn’t even be here.

Generally people who hyper obsess about money being the only motivator are people that don’t have enough of it, or feel they don't have enough of it. And I take Fran at his word that he’s got more than enough to keep himself happy.

I agree.

Kyle McCord was offered much more by other teams but PICKED us due to coaching relationship etc

Does Money play a role?? Absolutely but it’s nots always the end all be all for everyone

Wasn’t the rumor that Nebraska offered him more than double what we did?

So, yeah - $ matters, to a degree.
But coaches, relationships, program culture, path to PT and to winning, all of those things matter a lot too.

If this was to happen will this bring back the Mullen to Syracuse thread again???

I believe that Coach Fran is a very religous man and that he is a Man of his word. I truly believe he will keep his word.
I will say, his whole aura and reasoning for grabbing this job is his word. He put it out there day 1 “I’m not leaving”. So it would really go against his word if he did, and I feel like Fran would not be able to live that down personally. But hey who am I lol I don’t know! I hope that’s the truth though. Stay here, win consistently until he retires & have a statue made or go to the SEC slaughterhouse and see if you make it out.

If he were to go I'd hope we promote Jeff Nixon. But I agree with you, Fran seems like a "my word is my bond" kind of guy, and he seems to mean it. I think we have him for 3 years.

If Florida wants him they will get him but it means we had a good to great season.

I'm not sure if I had two options, with one being coach at Syracuse and one being coach at Florida making more money - that I would absolutely pick Florida. Both FSU and Florida have some big structural issues to go along with sky high fan and booster expectations. Its a much bigger challenge to win at Florida now than 15 years ago, and the challenges are going to continue to grow. From a "money now" perspective Florida is the clear choice - but the better long-term bet might be Syracuse.

Better long term bet Syracuse football over Florida. Really? I love me some SU football but Florida is a pretty coveted head coaching gig.

Depends on what version of long term you’re looking at. As a fan, are you more likely to see Florida win a national championship in the next 15 years? Sure.

But as a head coach, is it more likely you’ll be fired within five years, or win a natty? Based on their post-Urban history, you’re probably going to get fired. Quickly. Expectations are so high at Florida that a head coach has a shelf life just slightly better than milk - if you take that job you better have your resume ready. You’re probably going to need it around year 3.

At Florida, Dino gets fired at the latest at the end of 2019. And there’s a good chance he doesn’t make it past year 2.

Florida is a toxic program right now.

Sure it’s coveted but you could spend 10-15 years at Syracuse making 5-8mil a year

You could go to Florida for 3 years and make 10 mil a year

But if you don’t make it, you’re going to be fired, that’s about 30 mil and if you didn’t win you’re back to a coordinator position at only 1 mil.

If you’re here for 10 years even at 5 mil that’s 50 million.

Also for HCFB his recruiting pipeline is right here in the Northeast

I truly think FB meant it when he said he isn’t going anywhere.

If he puts together a couple great years at Cuse and gets us just close to a natty, we probably build Fran Brown a statue and he ends up in the ring of honor and a legend at Cuse.

He’s not an idiot and he knows that

Fran being a child of the Northeast makes it more difficult to pry away our prodigal son.
And he shall be the biggest of fish in the smallest of ponds. Yea verily.

Fran said he would be here for 10 years, then watch his daughter and sons grow up. If he then comes out of retirement after 2 years he would be 53. Plenty of time to chase the big bucks.

Bigger concern for me is losing Nixon next year, not Fran.
Agree. Was thinking the same thing. He's going to be the hardest to keep with the great way he's calling games and building a great offense. Now of course Coach Fran had to get him some of pieces, like Kyle & keeping OG & LQA.

I have no first hand knowledge of the man at all, but from what have seen or heard from others who have met with him, I believe:
he is a man of his word;
that being a HFC at a northeastern school is his dream;
that helping young men, but especially young black men, and particularly those from Camden NJ, become leaders in their communities and great fathers and husbands in their homes is his mission;
that is not a man who can be seduced by more money;
his success here will allow him to use his people skills to bring our NIL into a top 20 situation (counting on new firms like Micron to be good partners with SU)
If SU and the community keep up their end of things, this will be his only college HC job.
( I would never begrudge him taking a shot at the NFL, but I don’t think that is what he wants.)
There are no young black men in Fl, etc. that need help?
