If you want anyone to show up, gotta make the change

Don't pretend to speak for me. I'm using my tix and I will feast on the crow you will be serving when the offense performs with Rickie at QB.
I really don't like how quickly so many of you turn against people after two losses. You all must have been amazing 20 year olds.
Do yourself a favor... put him on ignore. His next positive post will be his 1st.

It’s sports. No one is wishing for Collins to have a miserable life. He seems like a nice guy. However, he’s been lousy at QB and that’s what we’re discussing here.

It’s not about “turning against” someone. What does that even mean?

No one owes Rickie Collins an endless supply of support. He’s a football player on the team we follow. If he plays poorly the expectation is that he’ll be replaced by someone we hope will play better. Like everyone at every position. If our punter shanked 5 punts in 2 games who would be admonishing those who wanted him replaced?

I imagine everyone here hopes Collins plays a masterful game against Pitt if he’s kept as the starter. I doubt anyone is actively rooting against him.

We can’t afford a loss against Pitt if we want to go to a bowl. Obviously Carney is a complete mystery but everyone knows, including his own teammates, that Collins basically guarantees us a loss against Pitt. It is frustrating, how many times under Babers did horrible backup play kill us? Here we are again. Gotta have a viable backup to Angeli next year but for now, gotta salvage this season. Maybe Carney salvages nothing but freaking try

Regardless Steve might not be able to play at the beginning of next year, and Rickie hasn't shown the ability to run the offense.
You need to find out soon whether anyone on
the current roster can.

Really? When do you want to run it...on 3rd and 6? Or do you think we don't run it on fist down enough?

In regards to your comment after first down incompletions, with McCord there was not that many incompletions on first down. This season there has been more incompletions if they pass on first. But I would guess there has been a much higher percentage of plays than you think, where we may have gotten an incomplete on first and then passed again on second down as Nixon knows he has to after that.

The issues is we are not good at rushing and don't get many yards when we do it. Which means you can run on first down. You can run on second if you got 4 or more yards on first, which is not all that often when running the ball. On 3rd down we can run if we have 3 or less to go, and you still may have to go for it on 4th. You can throw a very occasional exception in there but that is about it. And you can't always run in those situations as that is too predictable. And then you get people saying Willis needs to get more carries. I don't think we should be running the ball that often if not efficient. But if you say he needs to get a higher percentage of the share than he is getting in comparison to the share Nixon is getting, i would say i agree a little bit. But Nixon is a bit better option in situations where its not a likely run, which is a large percentage of the plays, as we are not an efficient offense right now.

Our OL is big but not athletic, in general. There is no explosion happening. If you take Willis's numbers and subtract out his single longest run from each game, he is averaging 3.08 per carry. Even Rickie is averaging 6.3 yds/attempt passing. You can't sustain drives when rushing 3.08 yds per typical run. Hence why Nixon is passing it more often. Now i agree we could probably scheme the run game a little bit better, but from what I see, the OL is more of the problem.

IMO we haven't run the ball well since Marrone's OL recruits left. That said I do not think it is all talent. Some of it IMO is system.

Our highest YPC RB's the last 10 years:

2025 Willis 4.32 26th ACC (only RBs) / not Top 100 Nationally (includes QBs)
2024 Allen 4.43 21st / not Top 100
2023 Allen 4.18 26th / not Top 100
2022 Tucker 4.52 13th / not Top 100
2021 Tucker 5.85 5th / 63rd
2020 Lutz 5.72 8th / 80th
2019 Neal 5.09 13th / not Top 100
2018 Neal 5.47 12th / not Top 100
2017 Neal 5.54 6th / 90th (tied)
2016 Neal 4.90 16th / not Top 100

Really we ran the bal the best with Gilbert. Early Dino era was decent. The last 4 years have been crap.

How hard is this??? The issue is not comparing QB A to QB B. The issue is comparing QB X in Game 1 vs QB X late in Game 2.

However good or bad Angeli was against Tennessee... he was notably better at the end of Game 2... and certainly in games 3/4. Collins might have been far worse against Duke than Angeli against Tennessee and worse against SMU than Angeli was against UConn... but Collins looked better against SMU in Q4 than he did in Q1 against Duke. Much like Angeli looked better in Q4 against UConn than he did Q1 against Tennessee.

No matter how hard you try, you cannot make Collins play like Angeli. And no matter how hard you try, you cannot make Fran start Carney if Fran does not think Carney will either (a) do better than Collins; or (b) not cause more problems for the team as a whole than waiting one or more additional weeks.

Everyone needs to relax. Not every win means a playoff... not every loss means we are going winless. Fran Brown is recruiting in living rooms saying that I will work with your son and grow your son into a man... not abandon him after a few bad games to placate fans. That is what he is selling to make Syracuse different. If he says one thing and does another, then there is no recruiting advantage. If Collins STOPS improving at a level that is not satisfactory, I am confident he will be benched. And even if Carney is going to start against Pitt, do not be surprised if you do not find that out until gameday. So might as well prepare yourself for another game with Collins...
Hey Archbold I feel like you are trying to say something here but it feels like in all your posts you are beating around the bush per se. Take a breath and then just let it out and tell us how you really feel. Don't hold back! It's all good man, don't hold it in.

I keed...I keed...

Fans who don't go to games because the team isn't good enough to be graced with their presence are lame.
is that you buzz? Lame isn’t the word I would use, and everyone’s situation is different.

I’m going to assume that I’m not alone in saying this but if Collins starts vs Pitt I won’t be watching for long. After 25 years of pain this university has put me though I am not that invested anymore. I love Fran and the direction he is taking but there is very little hope of winning another game or being competitive with Collins in the game. Would love to be proven wrong but he just doesn’t have it and you can tell by the players reaction they don’t think so as well. Unfortunately they chose poorly in the portal and it’s going to cost them a lot of fan support and my guess nil money.

OK. I remember freezing my butt off in Archbold back in the day when beating Navy was far from a sure thing. That cold weather was real pain. The players might have been cold, but we were colder.

I was at the Maryland game in 1987 with a lot of silver benches missing people. I think I had most of a section to myself. I was also there for Penn State when it was a sellout a few weeks later.

I was there for GRob games.

There are 25k-30k real SU football fans at any time. Probably about 15k real basketball fans. Win, lose, or draw.

McNabb or Nunes. Dick Mac or Shafer. Hal Cohen or Carmelo Anthony. There are always more seats than fans, so don't worry. There is always space to hop back on if/when we get back to the win total that makes it satisfactory to jump back in...

Not sure Fran will but I’d call Collins into the office and tell him Carney is going to get some first team reps. I’d let him know he is still the starter for Pitt but if we do not see improvement in the game Carney will get a chance.
It will cause Ricky to embrace the competition and improve or it won’t. I’ve seen Dungey after Devito come in and elevate his game. I saw McCord after the Pitt interceptions elevate his play. Either Collins elevates his play against Pitt and show he is the leader of the team or a change needs to be made.
I know Fran said Ricky is like a freshman and hasn’t really played since high school but Angeli did not exactly have tons of game experience. Playing P4 is difficult but to be the starter you have to perform. Now that these guys get paid when your qb is not good it’s decreasing the value of everyone on the O. That will cause potential issues in the locker room.

You know who IS a freshman? The kid from Pitt who torched BC last week and just may do the same to us. I don’t think we can afford to give Rickie a bad half or even a bad 1st quarter.

💯 I was at every grob, shaffer, and until Maryland every Dino game. Dino broke me, I still love su and believe in Fran but I have realized it’s not life or death like I use to believe. Collins isn’t good and also it’s not entertaining.

Collins isn't good, but it has also been 10 quarters of him taking meaningful snaps. He did not throw away the Clemson game.

Arch Manning is struggling. He has far more pedigree, hype, talent and weapons around him relative to his opposition than Rickie has. Returning QBs in the Heisman discussion for LSU, Penn State, and Clemson are struggling. Imaleava was 0-4 and then just upset PSU... running for 150 yards. Amazing what a new O.C. can do in his first game to help a struggling QB.

Tennessee almost lost to Mississipi State. Georgia Tech probably should have lost to Wake Forest. Angeli came real real close to losing to UConn. Duke and SMU are better than UConn.

You can and should do what you want. Personally, I like Fran because it seems like he wants to win as much as the fans want it. He is not stupid and certainly not going to lose on purpose. I doubt he is going to keep a better player on the bench for longer than necessary. In fact, is there any other position on the field where we cannot understand why some backup is not getting more PT? Antoine is starting. Samuels is starting. The closest is Nixon stealing PT from Willis. Only QB is it assumed that Fran is stubborn, drunk, or stupid. He may be close to taking Rickie out. He may have done it yesterday. If he did, so be it. Collins had his chance. Next man up. But I am not going to go on a hunger strike over it either way.
