If you want to know how frustrating it is to be a Bills fan

Millhouse are you Mike Schopp? I mean I agree with you but good luck ever convincing old school football guy that math is right and their gut sucks. Might as well argue politics.
Reason #1 I'd make a great owner is I'd hire an Aaron Schatz type to be a 4th down & clock czar. C'mon Kim P. get that done.

They all understand analytics. But that is in a vacuum, it's one part of the equation. They aren't just going with their "gut".

He doesn't. He answered one question earlier this year or last year where he really thought that the numbers didn't factor in field position. I'll find the link tomorrow.

I disagree. 1. KC demonstrated a general inability to stop the running game, so with 2nd and 3rd and two at the KC 3 yd. line, Hackett calls two pass plays. Bills settle for a field goal. 2. Bills ball, 4th and 6 INCHES. Bills don't punt or run a play. Instead, they try to create an error. Which they did...from their own offensive line. Six @*(&^ inches! 3. 1st and ten on the KC 15 yard line. 3 passes to the end zone followed by a 4th down attempt to get the 1st down. Again, what happened to the running game? What happened to moving the markers?

Fumbles happen, but this game turned on scaredy-cat, questionable, and finally, desperate coaching calls. Marrone promised Buffalo a first class NFL staff, then brought a nervously ultra-conservative college OC. I don't think Doug helped his cause with the Pegulas.
Honestly, this is the first game I didn't mind the offensive playcalling. Sure there will always be playcalls that people will disagree with in every game but just because the plays didn't work doesn't mean they were bad calls.

I agree, retrospectively, that we should have run more in the red zone but Orton, on 3 seperate drives, missed TD throws to open guys. He has to hit those. If he hits just one we probably win.

IMO, the loss falls on the fact that this team, while very talented, has not turned the corner yet. In a huge game, against a team Buffalo is better than and dominated the entire game, they find a way to lose. This is the first game this year where the thought "same old Bills" crossed my mind and not due to lack of talent but the inability to win a big game combined with the ridiculous fashion in which they found a way to lose it.

I never once felt we would lose that game until McKelvin fumbled the punt mid-4th quarter. We were the better team. KC couldn't score and it was only a matter of time, the way our offense was able to move the ball outside of the red zone that they either scored to put it away or the defense makes a big play to seal it.

Bryce Brown played great but gets stripped on a freak play that takes away 7 points and gives KC the ball. McKelvin fumbles to give KC life in a game where they were severely outmatched. Kyle Orton played his worst game as a Bill with his inability to make basic throws in the red zone. They found a way to lose. They have not figured out how to win a big game. SD, NE and now KC.

It's now make or break time. Given the cluster of of 5-4, 6-3 teams in AFC fighting for a WC and our gauntlet in the final Quarter, Buffalo probably has to go 3-0 in the these next 3. All winnable games with 2 against WC competition to get us to 8-4 before we play at Denver, Green Bay, at Oakland and at NE. Luckily everyone we're competing with also has tough schedules given the parity of the AFC.

Do I have confidence Buffalo can win these next 3? Not yet, they have given me no reason to believe they can win a big game. They get another chance Thursday in what looks like an elimination game between Buffalo and Miami.

no complaints here about game plan or play calling. kansas city has a good defense and orton was off. marrone's fine the other 6 days a week

bills are cooked. 2-4 in conference. seasons can end so fast

I live in Kansas City and talked to several Chiefs fans at work today. They all admit they got away with one. That doesn't necessarily make me feel better :)

Good post. The main issue for me is regardless of who the coach or QB is Buffalo has lost this type of game going on a decade + now. Every single time there in contention to finally take that next step they not only lose they find a new and excrutiating way to do so. Whether its the 100 yard INT return for a TD last year, the fumbled kickoff late in the game vs New England which cost us a win during the TO year, the Bledsoe loss to the Steelers 2nd and 3rd stringers, the list goes on and on and on.

As soon as Charles scored on that 4th and 1 play I knew the game was lost. Even with the Bills up 3 and getting the ball you knew it was over it was just a matter of how they were going to lose. Dont know how many more times I can keep putting myself through games like this because the losses get more excrutiating and more bizarre each year.

they keep throwing money at mckelvin for some reason.

the guys who fumbled away the game yesterday are known fumblers.

lots of empty talk about valuing the ball

Agree on both.

LI - "Probably need 3-0" is a massive understatement. Probably needed 4-0 starting yesterday, considering Denver&NE are L's and 10-6 will be iffy. It's now up to chance even if they run the table in win-able games (in which I'm including GB).
Season over before Thanksgiving. Again.

Honestly, i'll take 9-6 heading into NE with a playoff spot on the line. I just don't want the season to end in November again.

That fumbled kickoff New England game was the worst for me. Took me awhile to move on from that one.

McKelvin is a good CB, he made a mistake.

Bryce Brown should've wrapped up like Hogan did going in for his score but it was equal parts great play by the defender as it was bad play by Brown (who I thought was excellent otherwise).

Buffalo isn't cooked but they have no margin for error. They have to go 3-0 in these next 3 winnable games. Keep in mind everyone else has tough schedules too.

he's an average CB who fumbles a lot returning kicks.

The Texans and Chiefs games killed our margin for error for sure.

Yea, unless they both start dropping games which one will but probably not both. With that loss to KC we pretty much conceded a WC spot to the AFC West. Now we're fighting it out with Miami and the AFC North teams for that last WC spot.
