2018 Recruiting Issue: ILWomen Top Incoming Freshman Defense Rankings
Along with former high school teammate Hannah Mardiney, Sarah Cooper had one of the best goodbyes to high school lacrosse that a player could ask for. As an established leader for Notre Dame Prep, she guided her defensive squad throughout the season, and most noticeably in the IAAM “A” championship, where they held the legendary McDonogh to its lowest goal production in three years. That game marked the first time the Blazers had seen a title win since 2003.
After the season was through Cooper raked in the accolades. She was named to ILWomen’s All-High School squad, the USA Today All-USA Girls Lacrosse first team, awarded Varsity Sports Network’s Defensive Player of the Year, and made an appearance alongside Mardiney in the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse game.
Now, with her time at NPD behind her, Cooper is about to step into her new role at Syracuse.
The Orange finished with a record of 9-10 in 2018 after losing, 11-10 (OT), in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Princeton. Cooper will look to impact right away as Syracuse aims to regain bragging rights in the ACC ranks and beyond.
