and you still haven't quantified how we are performing poorly because of a lack of resources. you said we don't have the resources to compete. I say our coaches are bad regardless of what they are paid. we would be an underdog to UConn on a neutral field tomorrow. are you telling me UConn has better resources?
Well I think it has for a long time been not lack of resources lack of willing to spend on resources. The school got a deal on boeheim and pasquiloni himself for so long they don't know the going rate if they hire and fire coaches and they aren't willing to spend it. One of the reasons many gave for coach P losing steam as years progressed is the school would not pay his assistants what he requested to retain them over other offers.
HCSS Pay 1.3 is 66th to 73rd depending on sources in FBS Last or next to last in the P5 according to all of them. Now he is probably about there as a first time head coach etc but when we hired marrone to come in with the fire extinguisher it wasn't much different and was part of his frustrations. And when we hire and fire assistants there is only so much we are willing to pay for assistants here.
A lot of people trash edsall for turning his back but one wonders if he was offered the job but not the green needed to take on a rescue project when he had a pretty good team coming up the next year UCONN. He was making 1.35 at Uconn and marrone only got to 1.29 in his second contract likely what we offered edsall right off. How many of us who are having success and adulation at work would take a job for less money to go work for someplace we really like but where the guy before did a terrible job and trained all the employees wrong.
This is big boy football your have to pay to play...you Need a coach like schafer who has a passion and is grateful that somone gave him the HC slot. People talk Memphis etc Fuentes would have to take a pay cut to come here from Memphis. Hes at 1.4.
They better not fire him it would be moronic, young team, solid recruiting staff, solid recruiting class, highest team GPA, good man at head coach, recruiting good men, promising development on offense and a team that has traditionally been better on D but lost 9 starters, and... SU is not willing to pay for much better. The Devil you know (and like) is better than the one you don't boys and girls. This is a program building process and that is the route SU Must take to be successfull at this expendature rate changing coaches every four years will doom us.
