ill say it...

An Jim boeheims won a title to yet the geniuses around here constantly criticize him to.

Look Go back and read the game thread today. 99% of the posters agreed with going for it; and I guarantee every one them is in your camp. They're all whiners. Only 1 person said to kick it and he was scoffed at.
1) Comparing Boehiem and Shafer is foolish. One has won damn near every year he has been here the other hasn't won anything. One is a hall of fame coach in his sport the other is about to lose probably his only chance of ever being a head caoch

2) When a head coach THINKS like the fans (ala in the gameday thread you reference)...he is usually sitting with them very soon.

Going for it there was the right call. They just called a terrible play after making a good decision.

this is such total and complete drivel. we have the same resources as a pile of programs that are performing better. can you tell me about Memphis tv contract?

You are not being realistic IMO. How long do you think Memphis will be good? Please. About as long as Hawaii was? You are not grasping long term success

The point Is a lot of anti shafer fans wanted to go for it and not kick it. Now it's pile on time.

Not comparing jb or harbaugh to shafer not at all. It's just nauseating to listen to the whiners criticize JB week in and week out to. Can't wait til this winter when we're losing games bc we shoot 23%. Surely that'll be JBs fault.

Agreed I didn't like either play call because our line usually cant run block.

It's really too bad the refs shafted us out of stricklands td to begin with.

I didn't see anything today that made me want to blame the coach.

Kids need to make plays. Had them beat with that 3rd and 15

Not even that 4th and 1 where we tried our first of two Cole Murphy 47 yard missed FGs?

There are a lot of frustrating things today, and I'm actually just at a point where blaming coaches isn't fun or a good use of my time. But that decision to kick that FG there, I just don't get it. If we had a really good kicker, sure. But we don't. Can't imagine any scenario where the odds aren't better of getting 1 yard at that spot of the field, previous goal line miss notwithstanding. Not to mention that our D was dominating them.

Oh well. I kind of feel like what we saw last week and today will just continue to haunt us. We'll be this close, but ultimately be our own worst enemy. That's the hardest part about a team this young.

We have three of the worst linebackers I've seen. They make no plays. I was at the game and Hodges name was never mentioned. Their OLine was ravished with injuries and our dline never got to their QB. Where was Thompson? Very disappointing loss.

Our interior dline consists of raymon who's played 1 season, and 3 freshman. But yeah would've been nice to see Thompson get to the qb.

I think Zaire has had two poor games in a row. Bennet was a monster today.

Id have gone for it but it's not a deal breaker. Murphy has the leg.

Early decisions like that don't really bother me because there's so much game left.

Thompson was supposed to be licking his chops against a backup tackle.

and you still haven't quantified how we are performing poorly because of a lack of resources. you said we don't have the resources to compete. I say our coaches are bad regardless of what they are paid. we would be an underdog to UConn on a neutral field tomorrow. are you telling me UConn has better resources?

Well, until we built the IPF this year, they did.

2 things -
1)We can't guard a screen pass. Almost every time an opposing team needs a 1st down, they call a screen and we can't stop it. Would be nice to see us throw one and slow down the other team's blitzes.
2) Every time, we get the lead you can count on run-run-pass.

I honestly don't think syracuse will ever be really good again because they lack resources to make it happen..
Why be a fan if you think our ceiling is that low? That's the most depressing thing to read. You've been hanging out with Stephanie miner for too long.

Many of us became fans because we tasted some very good if not great years. We hold out hope that we can get back there someday. With each passing year we become more numb to the futility... and our recovery time from disappointment becomes quicker... but we still care. Without hope there is no point to any of it.

Not thinking something will happen does not equal not hoping it will. I have the same mindset as IthacaBarrel; it is unlikely we will ever be an elite program again.

I still watch every game and come into every season hoping I'm wrong.

I get what you're saying. I just can't bear the thought of "never". I know things can happen if the right factors come together. We've seen other disadvantaged programs do it. I can even accept that if we return to relevancy that any elite consideration will be fleeting. After all even during the 80s and 90s glory we only had 2 top 10 finishes. But the thing is those short-lived seasons created memories that made it worth the wait.

It wasn't a face mask...that's probably why?

Agree on the "fumble" though.

But it was hands to the face on a Qb behind the line of scrimmage...

Well I think it has for a long time been not lack of resources lack of willing to spend on resources. The school got a deal on boeheim and pasquiloni himself for so long they don't know the going rate if they hire and fire coaches and they aren't willing to spend it. One of the reasons many gave for coach P losing steam as years progressed is the school would not pay his assistants what he requested to retain them over other offers.

HCSS Pay 1.3 is 66th to 73rd depending on sources in FBS Last or next to last in the P5 according to all of them. Now he is probably about there as a first time head coach etc but when we hired marrone to come in with the fire extinguisher it wasn't much different and was part of his frustrations. And when we hire and fire assistants there is only so much we are willing to pay for assistants here.

A lot of people trash edsall for turning his back but one wonders if he was offered the job but not the green needed to take on a rescue project when he had a pretty good team coming up the next year UCONN. He was making 1.35 at Uconn and marrone only got to 1.29 in his second contract likely what we offered edsall right off. How many of us who are having success and adulation at work would take a job for less money to go work for someplace we really like but where the guy before did a terrible job and trained all the employees wrong.

This is big boy football your have to pay to play...you Need a coach like schafer who has a passion and is grateful that somone gave him the HC slot. People talk Memphis etc Fuentes would have to take a pay cut to come here from Memphis. Hes at 1.4.

They better not fire him it would be moronic, young team, solid recruiting staff, solid recruiting class, highest team GPA, good man at head coach, recruiting good men, promising development on offense and a team that has traditionally been better on D but lost 9 starters, and... SU is not willing to pay for much better. The Devil you know (and like) is better than the one you don't boys and girls. This is a program building process and that is the route SU Must take to be successfull at this expendature rate changing coaches every four years will doom us.

I was positive that we'd have had them after that personal foul and they started at the 40... and then scored a few plays later. Absolutely gutting.

Had the game won multiple times, just didn't execute it. I'll say this, I was entertained. It's fun to watch.

A shame not to come away with the victory, but, I'm not going to go catatonic because a close game came out on the wrong end.

Blame it on coaching all you want, blame it on players all you want, it's a team effort. And, I'm at least proud of this young team for fighting so hard. I think their belief is growing.
