I'm in a show hole, need suggestions

Finished part 1 of S5 of Stranger Things.

I liked it. Obviously it’s been a long time since S4 so many have kinda forgotten about it.
I'm thinking about waiting for when it's all out.

Stranger Things!

Some of the kids still look like kids, but a couple have gone full late 90210 Luke Perry.

I remember liking the 1st 2 seasons but then never watched anything further with it. Not sure it's ever going to work its way back up to the top of the list to start again.

Industry coming back next month for season 4. Highest recommendation though it's a little wild. Not sure what I'd compare it to, maybe early Entourage in a British finance bro world.

Wayward. Yeah, I only got a few episodes into that and then dropped it. I think it’s just difficult for me to find anything interesting in stuff that features ‘young people’ these days.
Actually thought the kids were the only decent actors in that one. The writer/main character is a really bad actor.

Watched all of it. Really good. Claire Danes is great and Jonathan Banks is just plain evil as the patriarch of the Jarvis family.
We are maybe 5 episodes in and have to say, not a fan of Ms Danes excessive over acting these days. Maybe I burned out on her from Homeland but she’s a bit much….

Oh, sorry, no I wasn’t commenting on their acting skills. It’s more about just not often liking ‘youth characters’ over the past couple of decades. A few have been compelling and interesting, but I very often just get annoyed, especially when they fall into the standard tropes.

Wednesday is an example that comes to mind, though it’s an extreme/caricature/cartoon, in a way. That could have been a fun show, but I hated how she was ‘a song with one note.’ That angry teen who thinks she’s smarter and deeper than everyone…. That example isn’t really related to Wayward, just one more annoyance. Maybe just a sign that I’m old and can’t relate to the yutes of today, but I think it’s objective to suggest that previous generations had far more interesting actors in the younger ranks. I struggle to think of anyone now who is interesting enough to be anything twenty years from now, or even roles played now that will be considered classic later. Timothy Chalamet comes to mind. Decent/good actor, I guess, but….

The last generation for me that held my interest was Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, and I often question a lot of the roles the Natalie has chosen.

Sorry this went off the rails, but I’d be interested to hear other opinions on the (expanded!) concept.

My son could easily win a Chalamet look alike contest. It’s eerie how often someone will mention it to him.

I understand your point now though. Don’t know if it’s an age thing, or lazy writing.

I saw this a while ago, but apparently they have these in other cities, as well.

Yeah, maybe an age (mine) thing. I have two nephews (~15 and ~17) and I just don’t grok half of their world. Can’t/don’t want to relate.

Lots of very unflattering closeups, fersure.

As always watch Ken Burns doc whenever they come out.
finally got thru the 12 hrs of the rev. war doc. So well done. Lots of little details long forgotten.

The finally though, written comments from 250 yrs ago could have been written today .

The Indian contribution has been so glossed over

They mentioned but not much detail about the land handouts for fighting.

Some local towns mentioned no longer exist and hard to find details about many of them

I never got going with Ozark when it originally came out. Not sure why because it seems right up my alley. About two months ago, I decided to get into it. I just finished season 4 last week and I'm bummed it's over (and how it ended - seems like there should have been more).

Last week, I decided to move into a new series - The Waterfront on Netflix. This was a good transition for me because as much as I liked Ozark, sometimes it felt so damn heavy. The Waterfront doesn't have as much depth in characters but it moves along nicely. I'm only 4 episodes into it and surprised they didn't make a second season.

Now I'm looking for the next series after I finish Waterfront (probably this week). Maybe Animal Kingdom or something else. Suggestions?

Dope Thief, Black Rabbit, Mare of Easttown, Task.

Black Rabbit - great recommendation there as I loved it. I don't know anything about Dope Thief, Mare of Eastown or Task. Is the bipolar guy in Ozark in Task? I just looked at an overview and one of the pics looked like him.

Pluribus on Apple TV is keeping a lot of us guessing. This is the show from Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) that stars Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler in Saul), and retains some familiar Gilligan touches, including Albuquerque.

I don't know if Seehorn deserves an Emmy, but if they had a category for hardest working actor, that might be good.

Yes, Tom Pelphrey. He’s a pretty versatile actor. He played Raymond Peepgrass in the Tom Wolfe book series A Man in Full.

Dope Thief and Task have some plot/theme and location in common, but they’re sufficiently different for that not to matter much once you get into them. Mare of Easttown is different in plot, though still all three are in Eastern PA. Mare and Task are done by the same people.

Pluto is is just interesting enough and well shot/produced to still be interesting, but I still don’t love it. Very beautiful episode with the South America arc, though.
